Quote from: Al on July 08, 2020, 07:29:44 AMIt's not about fishing but this pandemic lock down is giving me time to catch up on books I've neglected over the years. Presently reading this classic by Robert Ruark. He has a way of putting words together that make reading his books "page turners".

I just got done re-reading Horn of the Hunter. Ruark was a good writer.

Poe has always been one of my favorites. I have his "Complete Works" on my shelf and re-read it at least once a year.

I reread the earth is enough every year. For some reason usually in the fall. It's getting about time. Hell I named my English setter Albert.

'Lords of the Fly' Review: Long Live the Silver King!
In pursuit of the monarch of the fly-rod fishing world, the mighty Atlantic tarpon.

>>>What Susan Orlean accomplished for the strange, hermetic world of orchid hunting in her 1998 classic "The Orchid Thief," Monte Burke does for another strange, hermetic world in his wonderful "Lords of the Fly: Madness, Obsession, and the Hunt for the World-Record Tarpon."

You might not know a lot about tarpon. The big-eyed fish (Megalops atlanticus), sometimes called the "silver king," is considered inedible, does not swim up streams, and is rarely seen by the casual observer. But because of its size (up to 8 feet as an adult, anywhere from 65 to over 300 pounds), its fighting spirit and its spectacular leaps, it has long been—writes Mr. Burke—"the world's most glamorous and sought-after fly rod species."

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!

I've been re-reading Roosevelt's African Game Trails. Interesting stuff.

Fascinating, awesome, and somewhat disturbing all wrapped up in one.
If they'd use this as a high school text book, I'll bet we'd end up with more science professionals.

I'm rereading spine of time right now. Already read 2-3 times. Middleton is one of my favorites. I keep looking for Arby mulligan and Tewksbury on the creek.

Another King book down. Plenty to go.

This is one book that I haven't heard nearly as much about as his more popular works. Being busy has had my reading time slimmed down.

Enjoyed this one, as always.

Read something. 📚 📖

Hilarious and relatable if ya grew up in the 50's-60's.

Read The Regulators after finishing Desperation recently. Interesting and odd how the two coincide with one another.

SPOILERS BELOW! ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️❌❌❌❌❌❌

If you've read The Regulators, see below - - -

What am I missing in the ending? The couple 'ghosts' are Audrey and Seth from what I gather. But, if so, why is the written letter describing them dated 10 years prior to the whole story?

Not your typical Stephen King/Richard Bachman 'horror' story. I was somewhat skeptical going in initially, however this story is perfect. A gritty crime-type novel. Loved it!

Points of Interest ——

• Never did I know until now that Bachman, a pseudonym of King's, actually 'wrote' under the name John Swithen, another pseudonym. A pseudonym with a pseudonym of its own? Hmmm.

• In many of his works, he'll incorporate connections and references to his other stories, towns, characters, etc. This is something I've grown to enjoy keeping an eye out for. Shawshank was mentioned a couple times in this one. Very cool.

• It's worth mentioning that George orders his coffee black when asked. However, Blaze seems to think he prefers it with many creams earlier in the story when he makes George a cup.

• The bonus short story, "Memory", was included in the back of this book. I had never heard of this one. Personally speaking, this wasn't much. But, it's noted that it's the origination of the popular novel "Duma Key" that would be published sometime afterwards. I've yet to read "Duma Key."
