My 6hp Evinrude just isn't cutting it for the 16 ft jon.  Found a 1967 Johnson 20HP.  Went over and tested compression.  120 psi in both cylinders.  $175 and into the car she went.  Hasn't run in Lord knows how long.  Guy got it from his uncle with intentions to work on it, but never got around to it.  Should be a fun little project to get running.  Outside is weathered, but inside is clean.  Lower unit is straight and appears in good shape.  Carb rebuild kit, water pump kit, and impeller ordered.

Solid score. That bote might get on plane, now.

If it doesn't get on plane, it'll be a sign I need to get on a serious diet. I'm thinking a 20 hp should get two people on plane.

That thing looks clean under the hood. Looks like a good find.

Yup, looks like you found a deal!

Still not sure that will push your boat up those little brookie streams?

Been making progress on the outboard.

New impellor and plate installed.  Getting LU reattached sucked. But it is back in place properly....finally.

Carb broken apart and rebuilt.

Float needed to be replaced, another 5 days wasted waiting on float to arrive. But carb is reinstalled into outboard.

Wasn't getting spark, so off came the flywheel.

Was expecting bad coils, but they seemed okay.  Wires were a little corroded and one of the condensers were for sure burnt up.

Still said screw it, and replaced both coils and both condensers to be safe.  Points cleaned and set to .020.

Will put the flywheel back on, give her new plugs and fingers crossed she fires up.  y;

Resurrecting an old , but great thread.

Thought about adding a motor to the beast from the get go.
Carp-a-rama has added to that. Electric trolling motor?
Or the 4 stroke 2.5 Yamaha I already owned?
Duh.
Had not run since 2007. Got a new carb and a new plug.
Designed a new detachable mount. Local sheet metal shop did me right.
Shifted the rear seat over a bit. Re-jiggered the anchor mount up higher.

Now. Will I get it on the water for the carp/cicada deal?
Corona hex?
The original goal was for musky... :Dance
