Title: TX birthday smackdown
Post by: Transylwader on September 18, 2011, 20:38:09 PM
Befuddled and I made tracks out of shitville to TX Country. On the way up, we had to wet the line...
Huge slump in temps by upwards of 30degrees, both pansies obliged and donned waders...
For a 2 inch dink :bomb
http://youtu.be/bd2B6SjMh_w (http://youtu.be/bd2B6SjMh_w)
Saturday dawned dull and BRA was planning to meet me on the highest peak in eastern US. Wasn't as cold as I expected, and we attempted to crack the code on 6K feet brookies. The hike in was easy, the hike out was nasty :wink
Here goes:
Promising, wet ground at 6300ft
(http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac335/diazdassie/TX%20Birthday%20bash/047.jpg)
Flowing water at 5700ft
(http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac335/diazdassie/TX%20Birthday%20bash/055.jpg)
Stream was fertile, but brookies were absent. Possibly acid rain keeping them out? 6K brookies in WNC, not done, and of course the bastard hike out b';
So we decided to treat ourselves to 8 creeks that form high up on the parkway. Brookies galore. Didn't take that many pictures, focussed on finding that beast...

After 10 hours of hiking/fishing/soul searching, both of us felt like Mike Tyson had KO'd us. Headed back to TX "surprise" party. Good crowd attended.  ;D
(http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac335/diazdassie/TX%20Birthday%20bash/105.jpg)

Drank a tad too much Moonshne and way too many beers. Fell in the creek at 4AM. Goddamn.
The lads looked rough this morning, but I was in a major hurt locker. Here's Maniac drawing the crowds with his dodgy flies :o
(http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac335/diazdassie/TX%20Birthday%20bash/122.jpg)
Split into three groups. Our quad would choose the shittest creek, still managed some but didn't bother taking their mugshot.
So since I ran out of steam and am licking my wounds, others put up your pix.
Happy Birthday TX.   0:0

Definitely some nice streams in those parts.  Good work too on the hunt for the high-elevation brookies...can't blame you for trying.    'c;

Like Transy said, we got high Saturday morning trying to crack the 6000 code to no avail..

We managed to get into some nice natives in the next 7 creeks that we hit, and had a total blast..

I started drinking as soon as we got to the party, so I have no pictures of the festivities, but TX's wife had done a great job of setting up a real nice shindig..Lots of imbibing, and hilarity, and a good time was had by all..Great to get to hang out with friends and put some faces to screen names as well..

Today we split into groups, and I fished with TX..We broke Transy's cardinal rule and fished a wild stream that was hit yesterday..First cast and TX got a birthday gift from the trout gods..

Suck it Transy!

I fished TX's little monster and it is sweet..

We did well and fished some amazing water..I got broken off on what may have been a 13" native, and I'm still kicking my own ass for..

Must be coming down with something, when I was driving back home with my friend Matt, we saw a black bear on the side of 221 in marion standing on his hind legs, he looked like he was trying to cross the road, naturally, I slammed on the brakes and wanted to snap a pic, but some corksucker almost rear ended us, so we had to bail. Just thought I would put that out there. Now anyone know how to flush moonshine and other unsavory things out of one's system? (-s

peeps may laugh, but a fraternity brother of mine showed me this. Drink pedialyte(that shitty kids drink, I get it at walmart) and it works wonders to ward off hangovers. Kinda ridiculous drinking it, didn't believe it at first, but it does work. Also, follow that up will some emergenC. 1-2 punch takes care of alot of hangovers up here.
Title: Re: TX birthday smackdown
Post by: The Dude on September 19, 2011, 15:49:29 PM
I used to use the pedialyte back in college.

But, this is the best method I have found:

1)  About 30 min to an hour or so before the end of the night, switch to water.  Seriously, by that point you are already drunk and hammering down more booze isn't going to help.  I used to find it really hard to do, especially at bars.  But, once I got that figured out, I realized that I still had just as much drunk fun as I did when I drank right up until closing time, plus it saved $20/night, to boot.  There really is no benefit of drinking booze for that last 30-45 minutes before you call it a night - and that is typically when I was drinking the heaviest.

2)  Right before bed take a vitamin B pill and eat a banana.  (Or if you want to spend the money, drink a muscle milk or other such supplement shake).

3)  Wake up feeling better off than you'd think.

Gents, thanks for the suggestions. I feel a little better. I tried each of your suggestions and will let you know what different colors I am pissing later this eve  :o
I saw two t-shirts in the Spruce Pine walmart this weekend, one said:
"Why am I so thirsty this morning after I drank so much last night"
and
"A hangover is God's way of saying I kicked ass last night"
I wonder if this genius has ever had a drop of moonshine before he came up with those two statements...
Carry on with the hangover suggestions,  am your guinea pig till 11:59PM.
Cheers ;D

x2 on chugging water before you go to bed, then chug those electrolytes and eat something greasy when you wake up.

Dude, I believe you that it works, but downing a Muscle Milk protein shake on a belly full of booze would probably make me vom.  Then of course, I probably wouldn't be as hung over the next day.  ;D

I'm +2 on the vitamin water the next day.  I always keep some available just in case.  The smart water is good too for re-hydrating and adding back electrolytes without all the sodium you get with gatorade and stuff.  +2 on Dude's remarks for hydrating during and shortly after boozing it up.

This is flippin hilarious! You just exposed a co-worker. This oldish bird (looks like shes a bit of a piss artist) brings Pedialyte to work with her, I always wondered what that shit was, thought maybe it was just some random crap chicks take. She offered it and I oblidged (think she knows when her fellow peeps are hurting coz she goes that route often)still feeling queazy. Wonder when the ring sting is gonna kick in ???
Oh, I should eat maybe that would induce such involuntary actions b';

Here's my take on the weekend... well Sunday.  Saturday was spent on some raodsides catching lil bows and having a good time at the shindig.

Sunday started slowly as days after a campfire generally do. People slowly emerged from cocoons, or so I was told because Dad had to get me and Socks out of the hammocks.
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1450.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1455.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1453.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1452.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1456.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1459.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1462.jpg)
As everyone eyes started to focus it was still to early to figure out where every one was fishing and who they were fishing with so we decided we would just all fish from the bridge.
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1474.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1469.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/P9171327.jpg)
Finally we got organized, Socks, NCGUY and I were going prospecting with the hope of getting into some brookies.
The water was tight with little gradient.
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1488.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1480.jpg)
The fishing was tough and the catching was marginal.
This looked like the only color we were going to see today.
Just when Socks and Dad's whining about going some where else peaked the creek opened up and things started looking up.
But it was odd one pool (and I use that term loosely) would be bow, then brookie.
Then together.
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/P9171339.jpg)Then things got a little crazy. Socks catches a nine inch beauty.
Yeah, the decision to saty on this creek seemed like a good one.
(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1504.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1503.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/P9171365.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/P9171384.jpg)
So then things get ridiculous.
Yeah eleven inches.
Pulled from this.
We didn't see any redds or spawning activity, even with these colors.(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/IMGP1479.jpg)(http://i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x446/chrisfranzen/epicsunday91811/P9171386-2.jpg)
After catching my monster I just broke down my rod, hell it wasn't going to get any better, then dad broke his fly off and said he was through, so we waited on Socks to fish what we called would be the last pool. Socks looks back and says there's a monster in here. We look at each other with that yeah right look and smile. Then all hell breaks loose, lots of screaming, me standing in a bathtub size pool stabbing at this orange beast with a net, and finally.
Exactly twelve inches.
Pretty fair weekend, good weather, good birthday party, good food, good friends, great stories and 32 inches of brookie madness with three fish.
