The streamereater and I had been talking about small stream fishing, camping and such and we finally met up to see if we would be compatible.
There's nothing worse than fishing with someone who's more of a dick than me, or who casts worse than me.
So we agreed to knock out a stream section I had not gotten to this spring and as a bonus, he had never tried.

We met at the starting block and got sorted out. Or tried to.
I had gotten in late the night before and had hastily loaded the car because I decided to bomb the house in the AM for bugs before I left.
(We have cats, we have doors that stand open for many hours in the spring, we live outside in the garden, etc.)
When it came time to mount the reel to the rod, there was no reel.
The man who owns over a hundred reels had zero reels in his car.
It was looking like some form of ancient Wonderod tenkara until Alex pulled out a loaded 5wt reel from his stash.
Many thanks later, we hiked in.

Virginia Waterleaf still in bloom at 2500' creekside.

Fishing started off decidedly slow. We changed early and often, picking up a fish here and there.

After a few rainbows, no browns, and a handful of brookies, we stopped for lunch.
My man made us some killer sammies and I hiked in the brews.

The sun started to hit the water and we both went dry dropper the rest of the way. Instantly better results.

A lot of fish skipped the photo session. A slither, a splash and gone.

A quick time check showed us we needed to hustle the last little bit to climb out for the hike back.
A returned reel, another couple of beers, and a handshake later we agreed to do this again.

False Bugbane, or Tassel Rue.  3' tall.

It's no secret.  ;D

Plants ID'd now. That False Bugbane is the only species of the genus Trautvetteria, to date.

Inquiring minds want to know, did you guys exchange numbers...second date?   -+;

That pack/vest does not look like it can carry enough Doug. I have just the solution - still have that FishPond pack/vest if you need more room.

Big J

I feel like I should of been able to guess this stream but I couldn't.  Nice work to the both of you.  Only the younger crowd can keep up with Doug.

Grannyknot

Doug, are the gaiters snake bite proof?
or just used for things like nettle & poison ivy?

Dougfish

Not advertised as such, Gknot. But I would think they better my odds. This year the nettles are taller than the gaiters!
