lines of severe thunderstorms and flash flood warnings over the past week have put the kabash on chasing trouts. But today was perfect, 55 degrees in the morning and a projected high of 70, with cloudy skies.
I was hoping to make a deep penetration trip up through the gorge, but that will have to wait for now as work and family life forced me to make it a short day on the stream.
I started in the lower reach and tied on a nymph with a soft hackle dropper. First cast into a sweet little run brought a nice flash and a slow hook set forced a long distance release.
Up at the next little tail out I watch another brown eat the nymph, after a brief but hard fought battle the fish came to net. The forest canopy, early morning light and cloud cover forced the use of flash to take pictures.

LoginYellow sallies and green drakes were the big flies hatching, there were also a plethora of mating midges flying about too.

LoginI was catching fish in a lot of places where I've not had success in the past, I was thinking the cloud cover was really helping out. All of the fish were taking the nymph so i clipped the dropper.

LoginI was enjoying the day and the solitude along with the wood thrushes song and the sounds of the river. The trout were hungry and the catching was non stop.

Loginon one run I actually saw a fish rise! I tied on a dry and caught it on the second or third cast. I stayed with the dry for the rest of the trip.

LoginI was feeling pretty confident so I set up the video to capture some action.

I lost the first one, and missed the second, video must have jinxed me. On the second clip you can see the fish hit the dry fly in the far right of the screen..
I took a few pics of the woods and just reflected on the beauty of this special place.

Logindobson fly... I just might have to try tossing a hellgrammite pattern next time
the last time i was up this creek i couldn't find my dinsmor shot, search of the car failed to find it, I fished up to the run about the pano shot and there in the water was the red ring of the container. sweet!
I turned back and headed downstream. There by the stream was a scratched out area and some scat. Fresh scat. Just up the game trail there was another larger pile of scat and more disturbed ferns all balled up in a pile and just on down the trail 20 feet further was more! WTF?
Okay you scat experts... tell me what defecated
in the woods!
