Where did you catch it?  On these smaller minnows, the drainage and habitat is key to identification.  Just from the picture, though, I'd say a blotched chub from the New River drainage.

Ok, Roanoke drainage.  Crescent shiner.  The picture is a breeding male, the rest of the time the sides are silver.  If you look closely at your picture, you can see the rosy bands on the fins. 

Good call.  I passed on that one because of the color.

I've caught them in the Neuse here in Raleigh, they have some weird thorns on their lids. Not very prickly, like sand paper. For punes, the sure do fight well on the 2wt!
