Title: bluelining is still alive
Post by: benben reincarnated on July 13, 2013, 19:50:17 PM

JIMMY CLIFF - I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jsw_r0hILQ#)

The Dude and I were on a quest for low, slow and not muddy water, catching fish was secondary, but we found both.

Fishing was sucky, we caught a lot of fish, just all dinks, so I'll saved my time and took mostly lots of stream pics...

Well there's your problem...

Great pics, Ben!  'c;
Looks like a Mayapple that doesn't have deeply divided leaves.
Was that a big hemlock? Honker!

Thanks. I think those had some berry like things extending above the leaves though, but I may be wrong. Maybe John can chime in if he remembers.

Yep, hemlock. Dead. The top had already broken off. There were an exceptional number of dead, large adelgid-affected hemlocks in this area. Sad.

What's the secret or how to- to keep those beers frosty cold?   I might have to be in market for some new gear!

Temp outside was in the mid to low 60s all day, I kept them in the cooler on the drive over, then they were then tucked in my fishing pack, stayed perfect temp in my opinion.  As you probably know most beer tastes better on the warmer side of frosty cold.  I had the ESB tucked in a coozie, the Fat Tire not, both were relatively the same temp when I drank them.

You can also wrap them in aluminum foil.

Nice work!  I wanted to get out this evening for a couple of hours.  I scouted the creek around 2 p.m. today and my feelings were hurt...

It may have been in the 60s, but it wasn't like a crisp fall day of football and bourbon weather.  It was muggy as hell and my glasses kept fogging up, everything was wet and you couldn't sit on a rock without soaking your ass and the gnats & blackflies were off-the-charts annoying.  In fact, there were a few times where it started spitting rain and it felt pretty cold.  Drier air in the form of sunshine and a breeze would have been welcomed.

when we were on the thndrhl with steel and wmt, the gnats were insane but they didn't bother me much, don't really know why, the other guys were just swatting and cussing away, strange...

Keith, I found if I drink heavily the night before the gnats stay away. Although the gnats on this trip were insane and no amount of alcohol could have kept them at bay. Even deep woods off didn't help except to make me annoyed by the scent.

I rarely have problems with bugs, when you smell like rubbing alcohol, I think it's a natural pest repellant. That or I just love being in a daze in a pretty place...

When me and Steel were getting bumraped by the gnats, there is no way i smelled good.  No shower in three days, plenty of booze in my system.  Meanwhile, young Woolly never swats once, "they arent bothering me."  Dick.

I hear garlic helps but me and Steel had both pounded his wifes Garlicky Hummus the day before.  Fuck me.

There's some juvenile humor in there somewhere.

Penny - Holy Crap on a Cracker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_Z0kTkFFWc#)

Forget about the obvious juvenile humor!!!!!!
There is something else that just doesn't add up here!  Anglers, certain BRFFF anglers, eating hummus?

Hummus: The Rap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIybz6axr1Q#ws)

"Annabeth:My fatal flaw. That's what the Sirens showed me. My fatal flaw is hubris.
Percy: the brown stuff they spread on veggie sandwiches?
Annabeth:No, Seaweed Brain. That's HUMMUS. hubris is worse.
Percy: what could be worse than hummus?"  (The Sea of Monsters -Rick Riordan)

Sad about the hemlocks – damned invasives!

Couldve/shouldve worded that different.

Read:
'We each dipped pita crisps in a garlic flavored hummus prepared by his wife.  Afterwards, a multitude of gnats swarmed our heads to a point of frustration.'

Better rethink beer as a bug repellent.
