Out there? Seems like this place has completely died over the last year or two. Used to be a lot of discussion, talk, or at least arguments going on here. Now, there's about three or four folks who occasionally check in, and never say anything, and seem to dislike everybody except each other. When folks once in a blue moon go to the trouble to post TRs, nobody seems to bother to read or comment on them. New folks are driven away, and most others are ignored. What happened? Does anybody even give a shit? Am I talking to myself? Do you want everybody to go away? Will anybody read this?
Many other social media platforms have gobbled up most forum members from most forums, not just this one, not to mention the hobby of blue-lining being an overall dying thing. People are getting lazier and lazier.
I plan to continue to post reports when I can get out more. Lots of dudes get older and gain more responsibility which sucks lots of their time away from not only fishing, but posting as well. The more a man has stacked on his plate, the less things of this nature seem to hold priority.
I enjoy this forum. Not many quite like it. I wish more exploration and discussion would take place.
It is what it is.

True dat. This is a unique place, and I have always enjoyed it, bullshit and all. It just seems sad to see it fade away person by person.
Yep. Lots of dudes don't like the shit people give one another. That's why they post on other platforms where only friends and the like will view and post.
I just love the part about finding and accessing hard to get to areas and finding fish there. My favorite.

Same here. Even if I am one of those despicable inbred, knuckle-dragging hillbillies who doesn't drive a 'ru with a Coexist sticker on the back bumper. ;D
I wish I could post up my tiddy pics. Other than that, I have fault with lurkers. Join in! We're not quite the dicks we used to be. But bring value! Maybe we're intimidating?

As far as fishing boards go, I only go to this one and one other. The other one has died out more than this one. I don't post a lot, but read most everything here and really enjoy the trout reports.
I'm heading out for a camp/fish in a couple days down your way, Yallerhammer. If'n I do any good, I'll post a TR on the other board. Maybe even here if the fish are really big. I don't want to get lambasted for my puny TRs. :embarassed:

The rest of us just catch punes, too-except for Onslow's big ol' brown a while back. Lambasting isn't that painful, anyway. I get lambasted for roasting native punes and sucking the succulent forbidden flesh from their little puny bones. :)
And if you read stuff and never comment on it, I can't speak for other people; but I am much less likely to spend an hour resizing and editing pics and uploading them if nobody gives a damn enough to say anything about them.

I comment on TRs sometimes. Will try to do better. I do, however, enjoy the pics a lot.
The TRs here are pretty awesome and fairly intimidating. I can't fish that well , get to some of those spots, and/or take great pics.
I'm waiting for the following:
1. Troutfanatic to stop acting like a troutfaggot, and fish the Little River in Montgomery Cnty upstream of Thickety Rd to Lake Eury. Yes there are smallmouth, Roanokes, and largemouth in thar.
2. Erik of Bruce to haul is ass, and his boat to the Pamlico Sound for some long rod flounder, and drum action.
3. Tomato Can to present his annual surprise TR.
4. Phil's imminent escapade near the Smokies
5. Some coverage of the the Wilson Creek NC area.
6. Some warmwater campage/overnight floaty boatage action.
7. Some blackwater/cypress tree topwater bass/bowfin action on the Cashie River, Lockwood Folly, Pasquatank, Merchants Millpond, Bennett Creek, Welch Creek.
8. Savannah River action by Croaker
9. Ityuglyflies busting citation Roanokes on the Fall Line section of the Nottaway.
I plan to fish some stuff very few have ever seen or fished before the year is up. Hope all goes well.
I'm going to tackle at least one of those soon. I have to finish up where I've started before leaving.
I still check here at least once daily when I am near my desktop. Got a couple photos for you - problem is half the time I have a difficult time posting them.
First one is of a 1/2 cooler of big bream and medium size bass which Anthony Hipps and I caught last Friday after he was the guest speaker at SRTU. (Pond owner asked us to keep them as pond is too crowded)
Second is my backyard neighbor who is one mean gal from Ft Bragg
I wish I got to fish half as much as some of y'all. Last time I scheduled 2 days to float we got 3+" of rain, and the time before that the Jackson was muddy.
Rod building and pondering a drift boat build keep the addiction hobby going.
Al understands content. 'c;
Meanwhile....

I'm on the docket for some TR that is fer sure. I just fished Piney Creek today and got my ass handed to me. 5 dinks in 4 hours is rufff. My annual alligator river trip is next week: 1000 crickets, bears, pitcher plants etc in the land time forgot, headed to Maine for two weeks at the end of June and some smalljaws float trips in July and August.
Where to in Maine?
Fished Rangeley with the Rapid River, Kennebago River, and fished the West Branch of Penobscot.
I haven't been here long enough to comment much, but I'd say the damn facebook, instagram bullshit is to blame for much of the reduced forum participation.
What's up with all the guests looking at posts? login and participate or throw up some pictures. Hell, pictures of trout is all anybody really wants anyway.

way up north at Red River Camp's for the first week in the deboille preserve up near Fort Kent/Caribou. The second week I will be fishing the WBP, some trout streams in Baxter and some trout ponds. Last year I was at Grand Lake Stream.
Quotespend an hour resizing and editing pics and uploading them
This is the main reason I do not post trip reports. It's just too easy to throw up some pics on Instagram and/or Facebook. There was a time I could email myself all my pictures and during that process my iphone would give me the option of, "Full size, Large, Medium, or Small" file size. I could select "Medium" and my photos were instantly resized and trip report ready. During one of the many iphone updates this option appears to have gone away.
On a different note, it looks like I need to check with Al and see if he needs any work done out at his cabin...
I'm just too damn lazy.
Actually, I don't fish enough anymore.
TR coming from this past weekend, but it sucked.
Bill, when are Doug, you and I going to float the SoHo again? I think that trip needs a redo.
That shitshow needs to happen. Leave your wedding band at home this time. And Bill needs to leave his cell phone.

It is interesting that Instagram, where an average of 10 words is posted with each picture, gobbles up a proper TR.

Brother, you only scratch the surface of where and what I fish for, and yes I have fished the Uwharrie area. Roll that sweet ass of yours down here and we shall pillage the Uwharrie. I am leaving Friday on a multi-state, multi-species misadventure, and a dead show or two.
But, I'll add to Yella's discussion...
Around 2012, this forum began to slip. My original account was launched in 2008. I'd go off to the sandbox for a year and never logged in. when I got home, I noticed more OG members have departed and new ones arrived. The dynamics changed with each tour.
When I got home from my 2012 tour, I hardly knew any of the active posters. Most of the guys that welcomed me aboard in 08 and those that I fished with were gone, guys like Leedawg, cmiller51H. Tranny, Al and TM were about the only ones left that I knew. I later met steelrain and dylar.
It started becoming factional around that time. Too much political shit, trolling, and deliberate efforts to antagonize people. I indulged too. It culminated when steelrain, dylar and I got booted, a half dozen others quit, including tranny. I still fish with tranny a few times a year and make plans to fish with dylar. I don't think steelrain fishes anymore and I haven't seen him since last summer.
I made my peace with Keith a long time ago. Tranny has too. Dylar has asked to come back, and said he will do similar to me, avoiding political bullshit and troll-countertroll. That decision is on Keith. I suspect tranny would come back if dylar did. I'd further suggest that several others would follow.
content brings people in. Not enough TRs being posted, and posting one is a pain in the ass. Other social media platforms are one click and done.
Some have said, they won't post TRs because they are followed with PMs from people who want to hotspot or comments from others on where they think they fished.
Noobs are few and far between because too much Drakish bullshit occurs with noobs. I am guilty of this too.
I'd ultimately say, if you want it better, you have to decide what you can do to make it better.

One thing I'm trying to do by starting a discussion. I'm also guilty of not posting many TRs and posting political bullshit, I'll try to do better.
I like this place. It's one of a kind. I like the geographic and species and background diversity of the fishers. I like the bias toward wild fish fishing instead of DH and stocker water, even though it doesn't piss me off at all for people to post TRs of that, either. I am primarily a blueliner, but I'm not above yanking a mess of doughbellies out of a pasture ditch myself, either. I like the mostly non-censored format. I like the banter.
What I don't like: The Cliquishness and hostility or cold shoulder to those outside of the clique. The mostly overwhelmingly liberal political commentary. The lack of participation lately. There are some good folks here, along with a couple assholes. I even like the assholes for the most part, because I can be one myself. I'd wet a line with anybody here.
Im boycotting until Spork buys a motherfucking raft.
I shall join you in this boycott if we mandate that spork buy a 3-man raft.
I'm to lazy to even properly reply to this. TRs are a pain in the ass since crapatalk changed the way it uploads photos and uploading to a photo site takes more time than i want to deal with.
I have fished almost every weekend since January. Some times its not worth posting a report. That's why I like fishing with Keith, he does the TR for me.

just reactivated the SMF Gallery http://www.brfff.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery
When creating a tR - I use the wifi on my TG-4 to transfer pics from my camera to my phone. Then I upload them to Photobucket. Takes only a minute or two. Ad free Photobucket is great to me.
Still look on here and a few other boards regularly.
And enjoy the pictures, stories and info shared.
Never been a prolific poster anywhere.
Agree that, other media has trimmed this type of forum.
Have always been more of a listening and seeing,
than a talking or typing person.
Even less with the whiny, liberal, snowflake, socialist, leanings
of about half the people in the country now.
The last few years fishing wise for me, has gone from
fair to middlin' to dismal. Worst in @ 50 years.
So, not many TR's from me, lately, (other than PFF v 35), dammit.
Fished, camped, broke bread with a few from here and other places...
Hell, I'd fish at least once with any of y'all that I ain't fished with.
Ain't Life Grand!!!

I enjoy discussing creeks and what's in them. I enjoy seeing guys try to access places few ever go into. That's what I love doing. General secrecy is respected, however I hardly ever fish a place more than once, sometimes twice. I don't try to be too much of a dick when talking creeks unless it's someone who never puts any effort forth toward finding their own stuff. I'm very open when discussing creeks with likeminded folks. I've done so quite regularly. I do not share info on areas other dudes have busted their ass to fish.

This place is like the neighborhood bar that I never had, minus the envisioned sleazy female skanks that would take you to the parking lot for a poke and/or a quick hummer. Everyone is at least slightly inebriated and full of bullshit. Discussion on most any topic can ensue and sometimes pissing contests erupt. Patrons come and go and sometimes patrons get together away from the bar scene.
My son and I met a couple of these patrons last Friday outside this neighborhood bar at an eatery/pub in Mt. Airy; their names were Erik and Grayson. My son and I ate bloody red meat; they had salads on bread. My son and I drank half dozen beers; they had one. They were both pussies and the wrong gender of pussies, but they were nice guys.
Sorry guys, that is how I see it.

I will throw in my 2 cents. Years ago I was one of the originals on the SEFFF and it was big fun then. Mainly because most members did not know shit about fishing. Therefore a zillion questions were asked and us experienced guys answered. Which creates plenty or forum activity. As more of them learned to fish and most of the wannabes left ,then board became quieter . And then a few dickheads started running it and you know the rest of the story.
So here you have forum with a lot of experienced flyrodders on board with few rookies that want help. Which equates to less activity.
PFF is similar sort of. The participants were very slowly diminishing , but it made a complete 180 degree turn around this spring at Shady. We had 36 in camp.
I am with most of you guys in saying that I wish more would sign up and stop lurking

"The Smiteage of the dude" was the greatest thread this forum ever produced.
I've been too drunk. Also I haven't been fishing since April here's the last fish I caught.

Threat of getting stranded is increasing. Right now I am relying on the hertz car rental booth staying open past when they normally close. If not I will be in Laramie, WY for the night with no transportation.
As I typed my flight got delayed again. 2:00 flight now leaving at 5. If it's cancelled I'm in Denver for the night. Not the worst thing but still no bueno
That's plenty of time for a dispensary run.

That one was before my time. I've listened to the show. I'm thinking my mother may have attended.
I meant to hashtag you on that post, but it was too much to drive, take in the scenery, avoid pronghorn and post updates.
Got back yesterday and getting caught up with work etc. Will post a report in the near term.

I hope to catch one like that on a blue line one day.
I hooked one like that in Onion Bed Branch last weekend, but I got the end of my rod tangled up in a rhododendron limb and he busted my tippet.

We've been part of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory psychological test for the better part of the last 5 years. I can't believe The Boss granted the approval just for a few coins. Caution: we're being watched, evaluated, and analyzed!

The lurkers spend a considerable amount of time PMing each other. I suppose they have some aversion to texting or something.
Perhaps it's some unskilled weirdos that haven't attained mastery of the dark web pretending.
