Title: Sign of the apocalypse or for the lust of guns
Post by: Mudwall Gatewood 3.0 on September 20, 2021, 07:39:34 AM
First, why were there guns at a baby shower, and second, why were there swinging Johnsons in attendance?  And third, I've seen the presents from a baby shower and have never seen any worth fighting over.

Well, to answer your first question, I carry a gun everywhere I go.  You never know when some lunatic is going to start shooting up an innocent event, such as a baby shower...

Secondly, my guess is this family has some serious, long term disfunctions that manifested themselves at the baby shower.

I agree 100% with your last comment.  That's not to say I'm ungrateful for the gifts we've received, but they certainly weren't worth getting upset about.  I'm leery of baby showers these days.  Our first daughter decided to arrive a month early the day after our baby shower.

I'd like to hear more details, such as why they were upset over said gifts, not that it would justify anything.  I'm just curious now.

It was a bunch of Yenzers from PA. Now we all know that's nothing more than a hillbilly from OH, WV, or KY that has decided to move to the city to make a better life for their families. The inbred anger and drug problems always follow them. All it takes is someone like you poking fun to make someone like them to loose their mind. You're an expert. I don't go much of anywhere anymore with less than a pair of weighted gloves and brass kunckles, 1 or 2 knives and a machete, and a few ninja throwig stars, plus couple of guns. Preferably a pistol and a long gun.

I may have shot 6 bullets in the last 3 years. That is good for about 3 ground hogs. Guns to me are like alcohol, weed, or drugs. Costly, and nothing but trouble. Fuck all that shit.

If I need to drop somebody, I'll simply eat some chili and sweet potatoes for supper, and granola the next morning. I'll simply do a walk by fart, and they'll drop dead with no visible injury.

Nunchucks in and open carry holster will solve any problem.

People know not to mess with someone with nunchucks.

A Brit relieved me of my first wife over 40 years ago, therefor the British occupy a special place in my heart.  BUT, it is damned hard to adore and appreciate them with news like this!  Plus, it is costing Britain's "National Health Service (NHS) around £340,000 ($450,000) a year" to remove anal objects.  Freaky!!!

Damn, will National Forest land be next?  No surprise after observing the greed I saw last spring on nearby WV NF.  Diggers taking more than I think they should.

I planted some on my mountain land a few years back, but the patch is no where close to harvest.  No worries, the grandboy will reap the gems after I take that dirt nap.

"While collecting ramps for personal use is permitted on the Forest within established limits, commercial harvesting of ramps in the Forest, including re-selling ramps collected for personal use, is not permitted.
Personal use is defined as two gallons per person in possession at any one time, about the amount that fits in a typical plastic grocery bag. This equals about 180 whole plants, including roots and leaves."

"Attorney Robert Gershman's client, Eric Popper, was involved in a road rage shooting with another driver. No one was injured in the incident. Popper faces 2 felony charges that carry up to 15 years in prison, but he claims self-defense.

If I were Mr Popper the video would have never been seen and no call would have been made to the police.  The bullet hole and damage the lawyer showed (looks like bullets had struck but not penetrated the metal 2 out of 3 times) was on Popper's drivers side of the vehicle? How did that happen? Did a bullet pass through from the other side of the car? Why no bullet holes that weren't from Popper shooting through the window and windshield on the passengers side? The guy passed him on his passengers side. This should be interesting, I'd like to see the bus video. I can about half way see how he lost it and started shooting, but I think Mr Popper has a problem.

From the latest RNC.  No gun stuff, just cowardly drivel.

"WHEREAS, Representatives Cheney and Kinzinger are participating in a Democrat-led
persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse,.................."

I would add this to the resolution.

WHEREAS, We, whom matriculated at Ivy League institutions or other bastions of higher learning, wish to alter the meaning of 'ordinary' and 'legitimate'.  We have contacted the leading lexicographers with our head-up-our-ass, chicken-shit understanding and clarification of 'ordinary' and 'legitimate'.

Joe Biden didn't say a word about the destruction wrought by the social injustice warrior bozos in 2020, but he did crawl out of his hole to bleat about Rittenhouse at some point. He is not president of America.

Trump is too fucking moronic to keep his mouth shut.  The electorate would've handed him the election if he would've kept his stupid mouth shut for more than 10 seconds. After fucking up his own election, he set forth to fuck up the Senatorial contests in GA. All he knows how to do is break shit, just like the BLM and the insurrection bozos.

Mega astroid for 2024!  Damn these losers.

QuoteSchweizer just published a new book called Red-Handed, which alleges that the Biden family "received some $31 million from Chinese individuals who are linked to the highest levels of Chinese intelligence." According to Schweizer, one of those individuals was investor Che Fung, who is referred to in emails by Hunter Biden as the 'Superchairman.'" Schweizer also alleges that "Hunter Biden was paying his father's bills with the foreign money..."

If true, these revelations dramatically advance the story from garden-variety corruption (Hunter Biden trading on his daddy's name) to something much more nefarious.

But how reliable is Schweizer's reporting? On one hand, he is the president of a think tank that was co-founded by Steve Bannon, and is, as The Guardian reports, "part of the rightwing ecosystem." His conveniently timed book Clinton Cash (published in 2015), raised legitimate questions about Bill and Hillary Clinton, but also included omissions and errors.

On the other hand, Schweizer's 2011 book Throw Them All Out took shots at both sides, and it sparked a 60 Minutes segment on how members of Congress cash in on insider information (which led to the creation of the STOCK Act).

In short, Schweizer's books often reveal important and overlooked information, but his motives are suspicious. This raises a question: Rather than outsourcing this investigative work to Schweizer (whose goal is to feed his reporting to mainstream outlets), shouldn't the media just do this work themselves?

Some, like Politico's Schreckinger and The New York Times' Ken Vogel, have spent considerable time doing just that. But let's be honest, if this were any other president's son, the coverage would have been through the roof.

Even without these post-election revelations and allegations, there was always an appearance of impropriety. We know Hunter was paid a lot of money to serve on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, apparently without ever visiting Ukraine and without any discernible expertise in the energy field. And his father just happened to be the point man there for the Obama administration.

We also now know that Hunter has become an artist, with some of his paintings fetching upwards of $500,000.

Does anyone think such a thing as an honest politician exists in DC? All of them are involved in some sort of elaborate money making scheme. The higher you are up the food chain the more money. The sad thing is it's rare that any of them are ever convicted.

The person responsible for the the Ukrainian invasion is Putin, not Trump, and not Biden. There is never a historic justification, or any other justification for this kind of destruction. There is nothing complex about it.

Thank goodness Zelensky brought honor to democracy, because in the last 2 years, a large portion of the American public have soiled it. The way the BLM protests were conducted in a manner that was a national disgrace, the gender ID arguments are an insult to biology and humanity, and the Trump riots were a great day of shame, and embarrassment for the entire world to see. All of the aforementioned groups are assholes, and none have any moral authority, or credibility. Back a couple decades, the unjust war in Iraq should have resulted in Bush and Cheney being tried for war crimes.

The consequences for the America's retarded public meltdowns should be isolation, and the loss of allies, not an excuse for more aggression and invasions.

America's position as a moral barometer suffered a major blow thanks in large part to the public support expressed when president trumpsky saw fit to pardon US war criminals imprisoned for the massacre of civilians in Iraq.
Now there's much discontent expressed in our country surrounding pukin being a war criminal for targeting civilians. Go figure.

I think you are refering to the Black Water contractors? I think those guys were ambushed and were in a fight for their lives. Without knowing all the details or having been there I hesitate to pass judgement. I wasn't crazy about the swap of Taliban for Sgt Bergdahl. If Obama and Biden had left the five Taliban thugs to rot in Cuba, Kabul more than likely would not be back in the clutches of the Taliban right now. I haven't though America's moral barometer has been all that great for a long time.

What are the credentials to be a legit "factchecker"?  Is there a degree in factchecking? professional license?  Are there facts more important than others?  Are community college facts less important than NPR facts?  Are facts only opinions of those squeezed out of a golden uterus? If so, how thick must the layer of gold be?

BTW, who is smarter, I person with average/low IQ who is disciplined, and strives to make sensible choices, or a person with a high IQ that habitually makes poor choices, and is a complete fuck up?  I will not provide examples.

One of the most wrongheaded mindsets that will surely allow trouble is to think this won't happen at your school.  Threats emerge everywhere, and nearly every year.  How they are managed determines whether or not children in your community die, or the threat simply withers away with only a few being aware there ever was one.

Kill boxes

1. Fire drills should be shadowed by heavily armed law enforcement.

2. Any staffer that props open a door unsupervised should be fired on the spot.  This stupid shit occurs frequently.

3. Lecture halls should not be used for instruction unless it can be locked from the inside.  This scenario is more likely at an early college.

4.  Trailers are not safe classrooms.  No brick veneer to stop bullets.

I know people on the inside.  Some administrators don't take this stuff seriously, or try to rationalize why a student wouldn't pose a threat.  The threat response in Uvalde is the response I believe most schools would end up having due to denial, having an entitled mindset, or simple laziness. It is up to the parents and students to be informed, and hold teachers and school administrators accountable. Nearly all teachers do well, but there is always one dumbass who cannot manage keys, and will prop open doors.

Keep your kids safe.  Gone fishin.

These shootings/killings can certainly dominate one's psyche.  Personally, they really distract my everyday life.  Not that I fear for my life or the life of loved ones, but a diversional question of 'where the fuck did we go wrong?'.

I can see why many (teachers, school administrators, church goers, movie goers, hospital workers, folks walking down the street, etc.) would not even consider getting shot by some other human.  Why would they?  Use the teachers and school administrators as an example.  They are not trained to combat such abhorrent events; they are skilled to teach and oversee our youth for a few hours every day.  How can an educator do their job, if they are consumed with worry over a deranged individual(s)?  Locking doors, metal detectors, arming teachers, resource officers, etc. is like taking aspirin for cancer.

Mental health?  Yes, important, but do we have any more crazies here in the U.S. than other countries?  Hammers/knives versus guns?  Yes, a crazy with a hammer can kill but this is a bullshit argument.  Only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun; this reasoning makes my ass want to suck a lemon!

Blame?  I'll take 1/ 7.9 billionth of the blame for worldly problems.  We are all to blame as the most advanced species on earth BUT also the most self-entitled, greediest, most selfish, most tribal species on earth.  As a U.S. citizen, I'll take 1/334,712,903 of the blame for our gun loving, narrow minded, MOST entitled attitude.

I often wonder if we're too far gone for repair in this regard, sadly, just being honest.

If gun laws are stiffened, there will still be just as many guns to use for ill intent, unfortunately. If gun dealers were the only place to pick up a weapon, this may be more effective. We all know that's far from the case.

If every gun manufacturer on the planet discontinued production today, there would still be as many guns to use for ill intent available, at least for a long while.

Guns don't kill people on their own. Neither do knives. But when you put a room full of children in a room full of knives, I'll bet you that there will be plenty of bloodshed.

It seems that ABLE security, and more of it, would be the more speedy Aspirin to administer. ABLE security would denote a person of physical and mental aptitude instead of the dimmest-brained, chickenshit uniformed man on the force (not always the case, but a very popular nominee). Many of the men/women chosen for this do so simply because of the cake walk mentality of past times.

Common sense helps. Keeping things locked up. Doors, windows, etc. However, at recess, and just everyday class movements that involve outdoor walking from building to building seems to be risky, are we to cover the school properties with a dome completely? Maybe that would be nice.

Budgets for security, etc. seem to be as much of a conflict as any other excuse besides maybe the simple aversion to everyday headaches involving everyday change to things on a very large scope. The "We just fixed that" or "We updated that last year" outlooks make it comparable to swimming in quicksand to get to the other side.

It seems that schools could/would have someone that would address any person that enters upon the property boundaries as soon as this is detected. It would seem like a good idea to try and contain a situation outside beforehand rather than allowing someone to get to the building or worse yet, inside it.

Time of entry always seems to be a hot topic. Having a plan before police enter. It makes great sense to have a plan of action before running headlong into a situation, sure. It also makes sense to have these plans made as much as possible before an incident takes place. Summer breaks? Weekends? Can there not be a team of officers, soldiers, or trained men that can be familiar with schools and such in each county? How could this not be advantageous?

So, security, timely entrance, and guns are now mentioned. What else is there?

Well, of course, the actual individual committing the act. What's the solution here? Better yet, what's the cause?

Attention? Suicide? Thoughts of being 'famous'? Parenting, or the lack thereof? Violence in  video games/tv? Medications? Multitudes of suspects are waiting to take the blame.

My opinion? It's some of everything mentioned in this lengthy post that maybe 9 people will read, if I'm lucky. And when you have just a little of a lot of different somethings, you have a very large, complicated issue. One that isn't cut and dry. One that isn't solved overnight.

You have one that'll never be solved. Ever.

We have too many rights. We can do too many things without being held accountable. We can't hold folks accountable because of their rights. Full circle. What you going to do?

Digressing, finally. My conclusion is that it's impossible to fix this. And the impossibility is made possible by ourselves, the very ones that are hurt and yearning for a solution. You cannot want to change others for the better when you're as much the problem yourself. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Saddest of all, this is but a drop in the bucket. Schools? It's the most terrifying thing I can imagine happening as I have a young child in school. But schools aren't the only problem.

Picture a world where somehow we've 100% eradicated school violence. Next, it would be more concerts, restaurants, ball games, children's parks, etc. You can't fix it. And it is the saddest admittance of our time.

We can't fix our problems because we can't fix ourselves because ourselves are the problem to begin with. You cannot fix something with the same mentality that brought on the issues in the first place.

Great article. I'm all for keeping military grade weapons out of civilians hands. I don't understand how we can differentiate between an ar-15 and a standard semi-auto hunting rifle. The metal components and actions are very similar if not exact. Calibers are very similar as well(.223,.270,.556,.7.62,.308). The only thing different is the stock shape and material.

I know many of you dislike joe rogan, but his guest on this episode has some interesting points. Not to mention, he did help rescue jessica lynch.

Already sounds like that loon had it out with his surgeon per early reporting. Surgeon assured his pain would be alleviated with the procedure. Really sucks for the innocent bystanders. Pain meds have to be involved. They also said he has been disgruntled since his post op appointments and had been trying to get in touch with his Dr. He should've gone on the "no fly list" right then especially if he was on drugs.

I have guns -- pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and a hunting rifle. I have a concealed carry permit and carry a small pistol everywhere I am legally allowed to carry. This world has gone crazy, and I am committed to protect my wife and myself from imminent deadly threat. Many people do not agree with the fact that I carry a gun. That's OK.
That said -- I do not think civilians need or should be able to purchase large capacity AR-15 style assault weapons. Also, background checks without loopholes, waiting times, red flag laws, and age restrictions should be put in place.

It's far more complicated than that, but I'll leave it there.

No more gun BS.  Now mayflies!

I gave all my specimens of mayflies (nymphs, duns, spinners) from the SOHO and Smith to Luke Jacobus before I retired from VT.

He's a good egg and I am elated he is still in the game.  We should all be concerned over the fate of these critters.

A carbon dioxide production shortage caused by natural contamination at the Jackson Dome — a Mississippi reservoir of CO2 from an extinct volcano — is forcing brewers to cut back.
Brewers across the country are reporting production delays in getting beer to the market and drafting contingency plans to switch to nitrogen.
Nightshift Brewery outside Boston shut down a facility after being told their carbon dioxide supply was "cut for the foreseeable future, possibly more than a year."
Others are paying 3-4x as much

Don't want a gun, don't buy a gun. Don't want your kid to be exposed to a drag show, don't take them to one. Seems easy enough to me.

Naked Virginia woman shot in leg after she allegedly broke into home, attacked victim with frying pan: police

Carroll County Sheriff's Office deputies initially responded to reports of a shooting on Loafers Rest Road in Austinsville on Feb. 26 and located Paula Michelle Locklear, 35, with a gunshot wound to the leg.

"During the course of the investigation, deputies determined that the shooting was the result of a breaking and entering," the sheriff's office said in a Sunday Facebook post. "The homeowner, who heard a noise at the rear area of the home, went to the kitchen and observed an unclothed female, who was unknown to the homeowner, coming into the rear door at which time [she] began hitting the homeowner with a cast iron fry pan in the head."

The victim was eventually able to kick Locklear out of his home and secure his door.

No guns, better!

Last week we ventured across the state line with the grandsons to the WV State Fair.  This is what I saw, not all this attractive, most were one Reese's Piece from Jenny Craig.  I had no idea why so many dressed similarly.  Someone finally revealed there was a Riley Green concert around dark (I am not familiar with Riley Green).  So, I have surmised they were groupies or such since most were not accompanied by male companions.  Confused I was, am I missing something and need to get out more?

Apocalyptic continuation:  Inside all day, Miralax mixed with blue Gaterade chilling in the frig, ready for the slug of Dulcolax, baby wipes handy.  Colonoscopy and endoscopy both tomorrow morning, hope to get the esophagus re stretched.  No need to make me into a larger asshole.

Hope procedure goes well. I had colonoscopy earlier this summer and now get to do the prep again for MRI in two weeks. Take care.

U.S. Rate of Suicide by Firearm Reaches Record Level
Gun suicides increased from prepandemic rates in all racial and ethnic groups, but the degree of change differed drastically.

The rate of suicides involving guns in the United States has reached the highest level since officials began tracking it more than 50 years ago, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The rate increased by more than 10 percent in 2022 compared with 2019, and in some racial and ethnic groups, the rise was significantly steeper, especially among Native Americans. Overall, about 27,000 of 50,000 suicides were carried out by gun in 2022.

Federal researchers involved in the analysis suggested that the coronavirus pandemic might have exacerbated many of the known risk factors for suicide generally, which include social isolation, strained relationships, and drug and alcohol disorders. At the same time, outside experts noted, the increased rates also correlated with another trend seen during the acute phase of the pandemic: rising gun sales.

"When there are more firearms, there are more firearm suicides," said Michael Anestis, the executive director of the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center.

The rate of suicide by any method has increased by one-third in the past two decades, according to federal data. More than half of those now involve firearms, the report said, a figure that translates to about one every 20 minutes.

On the flip side, more than half of all gun deaths in the United States are suicides.

To examine recent trends, federal researchers at the C.D.C.'s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control compiled and analyzed demographic and mortality data from the National Vital Statistics System and the Census Bureau. (Statistics from 2022, the most recent available data, are still considered preliminary.)

They found that the firearm suicide rate in 2022 (8.1 per 100,000) was the highest level since at least 1968, the earliest year on record in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

Suicide rates have increased across all racial and ethnic groups since 2019, but the degree of change differed drastically. American Indian and Alaska Native people, for example, saw the sharpest spike: a 66 percent increase in the rate of firearm suicides from 2019 to 2022 (to 10.6 from 6.4 per 100,000). The rate among Black people increased by 42 percent (to 5.3 from 3.8 ), and among Hispanic and Latino people by 28 percent (to 3.3 from 2.5). Asian and Pacific Island people saw firearm suicide rates increase by about 10 percent (to 1.9 from 1.7).
