Title: Sweating on the So Ho..
Post by: Woolly Bugger on December 27, 2008, 22:29:44 PM
What a difference a week makes! 67* and sunny. I'm half-baked.

Anyway I got over there about 7:30 and conditions were horrible, no wind, bright sun and warm temperatures. It in fact made for difficult fishing conditions. I sort of missed the cold gray days that bring out the bwo's.

I tried the Davie knot. Tied on the dropper with it. Hooked a beast of a fish that ran all over the pool, then leaped completely out of the water, headed up to the next pool and porpoised again. It looked like a football, but when it hit the water the Davie knot failed... argggggg!

Hooked into a couple of other nice fish that came unbuttoned in the fight. Here are some pics of some of the fish I netted...

Most of the fish were on nymphs.. but there were a few risers that I hit with a bwo and took two from the surface... there really wasn't much of a hatch...

I was there yesterday as well. Looks like everyone in a three state region got fishing gear for Christmas and headed to the SoHo to try it out. Biggest crowds I have seen since the summer.

I was there Friday and it was a zoo then too. I am getting burned out. I need some mtn stream action. I hope to hit the mtns next week. I just can't handle the crowds like that.

It wasn't too crowded where I was on the river, in fact I had all the water I wanted all to myself for most of the day. I got the beat down from the sun and finally took a break at 3 is and went to Webb's or a hot-dog and drink. Then I went off of Big Springs Road and found a nice run empty. I usually catch a dozen bow out of this one deep fast slot. But not yesterday! Around five I moved on back to where I started the day and there was no one to be seen up or down the river.

I fished it the following day, Sunday afternoon - Big Springs just below the upper end.  Got on the water about 1:00, at end of the rainy front - fishing was good for about an hour or so 'til the clouds started thinning out - then they just pretty much shut down except for a couple more fish deep-nymphed.  First time I fished Big Springs all year - man the didymo seems to be a lot worse there than up higher...like a thick carpet in places.. :(

Nice report though  0--0
