Glass and decided to give it another try today, and the roads getting there were much better, however the road through the Forrest was yet to be plowed.

We pause at the entrance, then decided to press on. You haven't lived until you've face death I say......

We proceeded with caution and made our way slowly up the road, we came to the place I had turned around yesterday, and the tree was still down, but had been cut to allow traffic. It was still single vehicle tracks, and snow scraped the bottom of Glassfishers FJ cruiser, but it handled the snow perfectly, 4wD and slow constant speed, we passed several down trees 5 of them and the last one had yet to be cut, so we drove over it slowly, and made it passed what we thought was the last obstacle.

The road was still treacherous and we slid off once, but glass managed to get us back on track. When we arrived at the parking lot, I was surprised to see three other vehicles in the parking lot, and guys gearing up for fishing. The parking lot had yet to be cleared, but we parked anyways.

We hiked down the trail and knew we were the first to take the trail, no other prints in the snow, save a couple of webbed tracks that proved to be the marks of a beaver, as they lead to a small shrub that had been gnawed and left stumped.

We we arrived at the water, it was pristine, no tracks, white snow and dark waters. I rigged up while glass was already rigged and fishing. It wasn't long before Glass hooked up with a nice bow, and things looked good.

I fished midges and glass fished a ptn with a bwo dropper, which-ed proved to be effective.

Soon after I was fighting a nice rainbow, that dodged the bottom like brown, and I looked over at glass, and he was fighting a nice brown, glass landed his fish and I was still fighting mine, before I managed to get it into the slow water and net it.

We did see some bwos coming off, but no fish rising to them. Glass noticed some small black stones hatching near a log and climbing out on the snow.
He snapped some good macro pics of the bugs.

We fished for another hour or so, then decided to head back and fishing up stream before we left. The water was running high and crystal clear, with sunny conditions, and we knew it was going to be challenging, but both of us hooked into a couple more fish, then decided it was beer time.

Glass had some beer, that was very refreshing, cold crisp, with a hint of fruit in the hops.

Glass sat on the bank enjoying the beverage, and I fished a little more, while we talked. I notice some midges coming off, and we could see a steady rise, near a break seam where a branch hung in the water. I decided to change fly's and go with a size 24 olive midge emerger.

I cast the fly up stream and let the current pull the fly into the feeding lane, nothing. I made a couple more casts, then when the fly was over the rise, I gave it a little twitch, and a fish came up and rolled on it, the fight was on.
It was nice brown, with deep colors.

It was good to catch a fish on a dry in near the end of December, and a great way to end the day.

On the drive out, we saw several stuck cars and trucks, with the sheriffs helping folks out, when we stopped to let them get a truck out of the ditch, the sheriff, said some folks shouldn't drive in this, and you could see the looks of disgust on his face. I bet it was a long day for him.

Here are some pic's of the day.

BTW, those foot prints were my midgets' snowshoes. They were out scouting for me. The cut brush was where they cut some standing wood for a fire. ;D
