You're right we live in the best country in the world. Those of us who've traveled a bit can attest to that. What frustrates most of us "common folks" is how our taxes are spent. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good programs out there and we wouldn't be the country we are without them, but "Come on Man!" there is a lot of money just going down the drain.

Two years ago I retired after 45 years as a CPA in tax practice. With one exception my clients didn't bring me anything, including coffee; they came to my office to get free coffee, which I made sure was buried in my invoice for tax preparation if they brought in a "steaming pile" of "tax information".
The one exception was a client whose return was extremely complicated (he was president of 5 different Fortune 500 companies while he was my client) and one year when his return was even more complicated than usual he brought me a Ruger SR-9C in appreciation.
Even retired our return is 84 pages long. Ouch!

Wild Atlantic salmon were previously in abundance in the US, but now only return to a few ME rivers
The federal government ruled Monday that the last wild Atlantic salmon in the country can coexist with hydroelectric dams on a Maine river, dealing a blow to environmentalists who have long sought to remove the dams.
The salmon, once abundant in the U.S., now return to only a few Maine rivers. One is the Kennebec River, dammed by Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Monday that the dams are not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the salmon if conservation measures are taken.
Conservation measures along Brookfield's four Kennebec dams are designed to improve fish passages and will require an investment of more than $100 million by Brookfield, NOAA said. The dam upgrades would allow the salmon to swim up the Kennebec from the Atlantic Ocean to freshwater inland habitats for the first time since the construction of the dams in the 19th century, the agency said.

so the photo memory thing showed me that I caught a bunch of these on the Uwharrie river back in 2016. That was a fluke of a day, just happened to find them in a spawning run. They were stacked up on a riffle at a low water bridge. I had to go back and see if I could find them again. No such luck. The Mayapples are popping up in force and I saw a number of Trillium too. There was a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers calling back and forth across the river as Kingfishers patrolled the water.

I threw a clouser for a bit, I didn't gear up and wade and left after 20 minutes or so and headed back up north to the Smith.
On the way there I stopped to check out a trail on Lake Brant. I heard Red Winged Balckbirds and Fish Crows on a brisk mile walk.

One car in the lot, guy was fishing the Rhodo slick as I went in at Sally's. There were bugs in the air and on the water, but I only saw one fish rise. I swung soft hackles anyway and caught nothing.
I worked my way down to the usual spot and swung flies and caught a few punes, but they weren't really looking up and I didn't want to play the nymphing game. I did see a sulfur!

I'd love to join you, but I can't. You must admit, we have it made. We can fish, hunt, travel, vacation, drink, smoke, vote, worship, protest, nap, fornicate, masturbate, elucidate, and pretty much enjoy unlimited freedom. Any cumbersome, lengthy, sometimes pricey, mandatory inconvenience we may face is a minor annoyance.
