Tie 10, Get 10
Swapmaster - Woolly Bugger
Due Date: March 15, 2022
Winter hit Maine with a vengeance this last week. Not sure of the actual numbers but I'm pretty sure the wind chill has been about 150 degrees below zero. So I stayed in and tied. Gimme an address and I will get my flies inna mail. Mop flies right?
Side bets on who gets theirs in late/last?
Can't vote for yourself.
I've started playing with cul-de-canard for the first time . . .

Chutes. :wave

chutes...
I haven't quite mailed these yet. I got as far as printing tags.
I haven't started tying them yet, so you're good.
Think I'm going with some parachute female Adams. Good all-around fly.

Ditto. That deadline is toast.
This is why I opted out. I've learned a few lesson on BRFFF over the years. You might get half the flies in a swap, and I probably won't ever tie the flies I'm supposed to tie for the swap.
I saw this thread had a new message and thought "Oh they are doing a swap". I completely forgot I was signed up for this. d:b
Got mine in the mail this AM.

Rangley is nice. Great motorcycle ride from my house. Scenic.
Finished mine today. 10 dry flies headed to Wooly. Mice are dries, right?

What part of Maine are you in?
Beautiful downtown Fairfield.
I fished below Edwards Dam a few times, family used to have a place in Bremen, down on the Coast.
Mike Holt, had the fly shop up there on the river and we hired a guide a couple of times took my son and his friend and we caugghgt about 60 smallies between the three of us. Never did catch many trouts at Edwards.

I miss Mike's shop. Was a 3 minute walk from my house. The dam coming down ruined my little bit of the Kennebec. I went from fishing over large browns and rainbows every evening to a river full of alewives and stripers. Oh well. Change happens.
Alright I hit the post office this afternoon and it says Keith should get them Monday. I haven't tied much because I haven't fished much the last couple of years. My skills and eyesight have both diminished. I hope you'll still be able to catch a fish or two with them. Egg flies are OK right?
Hey! Got the ugliest 10 caddis flies you'll ever fish done. d:b
I learned a long time ago they don't have to be pretty to catch fish. I remember some of the flies I was taught from old timers when I first started fishing looked like hair balls and dryer lint.
Mine are done. Should get them out tomorrow. I left them at home this morning. DST always screws with my memory in the mornings for about a month . . .
Flies in the mail.
From me you are getting a CDC caddis - deer hair tail with mixed March Brown/Copper Ice Dub body and March Brown CDC wings. I think they look like crap, but they float like nobody's business and forever. I put some of the early samples in a glass for about 3 days and nothing ever sank.
I need to play with CDC bodies next.
Going in mail today, was going to fish with Woolly today and give them to him them, but I had to cancel on him.
Hey, I bought the hooks I needed.
And the flies will have fancy tags on them.
Go Hokies!

Why yes indeed, Mr pot stirrer! :;! — I thought I indicated that with the spreadsheet with the flies —- they are all sorted and ready to send back,
Guys, I apologize profusely, but I'm gonna have to bow out on this one. Between working ten hour days and taking care of my mom, I bit off more than I had time to chew. And seems like every weekend, I have some crap comes up. Been dealing with a stopped up septic line this weekend. It just doesn't look like it's gonna happen right now. I am very sorry to keep y'all waiting. Maybe I'll catch y'all on the next one when I have more time. Makes me feel bad, but I don't want to keep anyone waiting any longer. I should have known better than to sign up to start with at this point.
Everybody has been there. Take care of yourself and family first. You owe us two next time :cheers

Nice batch of flies gentlemen. Like I said earlier this was a fine swap.
You can color the foam post on the purple haze parachute any color you want with a marking pen. Some times white is hard to see in foam lines. You might want to trim the hackle on that bionic ant and hippie stomper to get them to ride flush in the film. I down sized the hackle on the hippie stomper but it may still be too long for slower runs. I always carry scissors in my vest. You can find videos of all 3 on Youtube and directions on how to trim the hackle. I wish all swaps would go this smooth. I know it can be hard some times to make yourself sit down and tie, but if you can't don't sign up. I always try to tie extras for the swap master and I always try to add a pattern like a couple of you did. It sure sweetens the deal. The people in the swap make or break the swap. I'm with Don & rbphoto this was a good swap. :cheers
Mighty nice ties, gents. Thanks. 'c;
Smoothly run swap bossman. Great flies everyone. Enjoy the crappy EHC from me, hope you snag it in some witch hazel like I'll likely do to all your flies.
Agreed —- good stuff. 'c;
Thanks all
Great ties, thanks to everyone for playing and Woolly for hosting. It got me back to the tying desk that I had been neglecting.
Looking forward to the next one!
:bow
Whoa delayed response--you mean you havent lost all the flies yet?! :drum
