After The Grizzly Creek Wildfire Burns Through Glenwood Canyon, A Look At What Remains

>>>Glenwood Canyon's dramatic, tall rocky cliffs, punctuated by tenacious stands of spruce, scrub oak and sage that lead down to the Colorado River, are familiar to Coloradans and visitors alike as a dramatic gateway to the Western Slope on Interstate 70. Today, the cliffs and mountainsides lay scorched in many places. A smokey pall hangs over the place. The sound of helicopters and water pumps drown out the roar of the river.

The Grizzly Creek Fire is burning through a lot of this usually gorgeous place, starting east of No Name and running out and up to the north and south. On Aug. 21, with the canyon floor deemed safe enough, Forest Service wildfire fighter and spokesman Wayne Patterson offered journalists a tour of what firefighters from all over the country came here to contend with. We saw a fraction of the roughly 30,000 acres that have burned.

A burned off mountainside above Bair Ranch near the eastern end of Glenwood Canyon on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020. Some of the wildfire fighting crews working the Grizzly Creek Fire have been trying to prevent its spread down to the historic ranch, which also functions as a hunting and fishing lodge.

Colorado wildfires update: Latest on Pine Gulch, Grizzly Creek, Cameron Peak, Williams Fork, Lewstone and Thorpe fires
Fire officials reported some slower growth and some progress containing several of the fires Sunday

Four major wildfires continued to burn across Colorado on Sunday, with much of the state blanketed in hazy smoke.

The second-largest fire in Colorado's recorded history, burning in Mesa and Garfield counties, prompted Gov. Jared Polis to declare a state of disaster emergency Saturday, and the Colorado National Guard has also been activated to help in the effort.

Fire officials reported some slower growth and some progress containing several of the fires Sunday, but warn that the blazes are far from being fully under control.

I fished Grizzly Creek once. Beautiful place but super steep gorge and I kept thinking I was gonna get munched by a cat. I could see it acting like a vortex and burning quick.

Side note, I think it got its name from a dude getting ate by a grizzly.
My real name is Chad Farthouse.

The wooden trestle bridge, which is believed to be almost 100 years old, is used by the Central Washington Railroad. The short-liner leases the span from BNSF. Central Washington Railroad President Brig Temple says several hundred feet of the structure is gone.

Very sad. Makes me feel ashamed that I've been sitting here sulking because high flows have kept me from fishing. Need to count my blessings.

The Golden Trout Pack Station burned down in California over the weekend.  Pretty historic buildings.

Hiner, I come from a family of boorish yankees who are prone to bluster babble. Please allow me to interpret.  I don't know what the fuck to do about this shit.  I will be dead before it becomes a huge problem, therefore I don't give a rip.  Besides, I won't be reelected if a suggest any form of austerity.

The overgrown herd is the main driver of global warming.  Forced birth control is considered genocide by international law. We must come to terms with folks dying. It is called life on earth. If we don't manage well, we'll get managed.

Legit question, what the fuck do we do?  I'm down to 2-3 ounces of meat per day, and nearly zero beef.  I only heat the public areas of my home in the Winter.  My MB has been down to 48 degrees during some very cold Winters. AC is set at 78 in the Summer, and 76 in the Fall. This is a weak effort, but better than nothing. Although I agree with Grayson's "Fuck a yard", I must obey town ordinance.

Biden yelling "Trump is a climate arsonist" is equally retarded, and solves nothing.

Batteries require rare earth minerals, solar has shortcomings and must be backed up by batteries or hydroelectric.  People are spoiled fucks, and will kill each other before sacrificing anything.

I agree; you and I will be gone before the world sees the worst.  But you have children and I have a 21-month-old grandson and I'd like to see them have a chance.

I also concur that we have an "overgrown herd".  As I've said multiple times, empower women globally – give them control over their reproductive potential.  Won't happen for a plethora of reasons.

Exasperation is consuming, and I have no answers.  It is damn hard to accept what I perceive as absolute ignorance, and an even greater frustration and disappointment is the lack of honesty.  At the present, I don't really give a damn if our leaders are democrats, republicans, aliens, or a tribe of three-legged blind goats all with one testicle.  All I wish for is for someone to tell me the fucking truth.
