Title: dodgy weather and dodgy flies
Post by: benben reincarnated on February 04, 2012, 18:20:03 PM

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Have you ever seen the rain? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS9_ipu9GKw#)

Today Foulhook and I against better intuition decided to hit up some new water.  With the non-winter we've been having lately we figured on a good day.  Dodgy flies in hand, rain falling, we hit the water.

The fishing was slow to say the least.  I couldn't bring a fish to hand, Nick got a couple.

Took a temp reading early afternoon, water temp was 49 and air temp was 50.  There was a small emergence of stone flies, but they were doing good to be size 20.

My new net I made took a beating today, but it is still holding up...now I just need to get some fish in it.   -0-

Glad to see the trip report isn't fish-lacking anymore.   :laugh:

The 'pain train' consisted of the JT Girdle Bug followed by a BRA pink S-dub.  8)

Love 'em.

Here's another one for yuns. Parkway is open in February for the first time I can remember. Drove around to see the sights in the middle of winter. Despite the warm winter, there's still ice up there along the sides of the roads, particularly on the North facing slopes.

Nice pic from the parkway Nick.  This winter has definitely been a strange one.  My drive up from Hayweird County wasn't quite as scenic.     b';

Hey foulhook, PM your addy. I am sending out BRA's flys tommorow and would like to send you some of my girdle bugs as well. The one you tied looked okay, but when you get my example pattern it'll make more sense. The sexi floss legs and speckled tinsel chennille make a difference

The one in the pic is Ben's Girdle Bug variant. But i'll still pm ya the addy for a template pattern.  -0-

I'd live in Haywood Co. over give or take 98 others in the state.

I hear ya Thad...every place has its gems.  The route I took though I drove by the ugliness that is the paper mill in Canton.

You guys got to some nice looking water in any event. The weather was really mixed up yesterday it was tough to tell what was coming next. Did you see much of anything? I walked through a few spots after not catching and didn't see much movement just figured they were deep under the rocks.

Aaron, we didn't see nor spook much.  In all honestly we were probably higher up than we should have been, but the weather of late was too tempting to not give it a shot.  The fish were definitely hunkered down...if not moved downstream (if you subscribe to that theory).

Naw I don't think they move down as much as hunker down but what the hell do I know. I changed my mind (and streams) as much as the weather changed yesterday. The warm clear sky at mid day had me tempted to go all the way up to the top and I started on my way but before I got there it got dark and ominous looking so I settled for some dink bows.
