Title: Micro Warmwater Tailwaters
Post by: Onslow on July 28, 2019, 19:30:59 PM
NC is dotted with small water supply and flood control lakes.  Those with watersheds 20 sq. miles and over tend to have tailwater areas that hold decent fish.  Sampled one fairly close to my house.  The watershed is small and nasty, but the dam has a huge basin and aerator below the discharge tube.  The basin is much deeper than anticipated, and will float tube the next time I visit.

Did the backdoor entry thing to the dam.

Had a few nibbles from panfish on the way up, but nothing of substance.

Upon reaching the dam basin weir, I was able to score some bass.  Caught three at the weir, and one bass and a crappie in the basin.

The largest was a 16 incher.  Nothing to get terribly excited over, but it pulled good.

Some of the pools in the creek were large enough to hold some worthwhile fish, and noted some what appeared to be rising crappies on my way out.  I shall try this again!

Good stuff! There's one similar to that near here that I haven't fished in years.
