How did those burgers come out? Wish i could have stayed.

Way too long.  Screw charcoal, I'm sticking with my butane grill when in the boat.  Wasted too much fishing time cooking those burgers.  They ended up tasting good though.

Dougfish

The burgers we got in Daleville at Wendy's probably finished at the same time.

You'll have to excuse him Doug.  He was recently crushed in this years dad of the year competition.

Trip 1: June 7

Well, as luck would have it, my number one customer loves to fish and even better, he owns a Ranger bass boat.  And better still, I was given the green light from our company Pres to take said customer cicada carp fishing just as much as he wanted to go.  No vacation days burned!  I had introduced said customer to the magic of catching carp on the surface with cicadas during the 2013 emergence at Smith Mountain Lake.  He was ready to go when I told him Moomaw was fishing well.  He is not a flyfisherman; he is however catching these fish on my flies fished as a dropper off a Tiny Torpedo.  You say cheating, I say inovation.  Works like a charm.

That first trip was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had with a fly rod in my hand.  Very little boat traffic that day, no one else targeting the carp except for a few bowfishers, who fortunately for the carp, were very poor shots.  The carp were really honed in on the big bugs and had not been stuck enough yet or gorged enough yet to offer refusals.  We caught fish after fish after fish.  Total for the day well over 50 with many fish over 15 pounds boated.

Trip 1: Back to the story.  Really, no lie, doubles all day and if we didn't have a double it was probably because one of us was holding the net.  As Mudwall likes to say it was EPIC!

Trip 2: June 11

Found myself on a much smaller boat seated with these two miscreants.  The action was not as fast as Tuesday but was still very good.  The wind was a challenge to say the least.  Doug has already highlighted this trip fairly well so I'll add just a few.

Dougfish

I mean I got into them good, and I've seen your pictures before, but..... :o I'm still shaking my head.
That first Tuesday with your buddy was off the hook obscene. The numbers were awesome, but the sizes were incredible.
On a 6 wt. The most under gunned one of us all. You are the man.  bd;0

Trip 3: June 14

Traveled to the lake again with my fine fishing customer.  He graciously agreed to allow my father-in-law to come along.  I really wanted to expose this young 82 year old to the excitement of cicada carpin'.

After several failed hookups, he was finally into fish.

And another.

Now back to normal.

Cicada gut.  This dude needs to go on a cicada free diet.

And I'm heading back one more time tomorrow.  I'm expecting things to be much slower but hey, beats working!

I don't know about that but I will say it is much easier to put up big numbers when you get to go fishing while both working and playing!  Doubled my opportunities!
