Finished 'Walden' this morning!

I liked it.

I guess I enjoyed the last 20 pages more than the rest due to my actual comprehension of what he was saying.

Books like this always make me want to move into the woods and live in cabins away from everyone.

Maybe I will...

Someday...

6 bears killed within 2 weeks as home break-ins rise in one NC county, state says

A worsening problem of bears relying on humans for food has resulted in six bears being killed over the past two weeks in Buncombe County, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says. Among the six was a bear accused of breaking into one home multiple times within days, always while the homeowners were away. It was assisted by a bear that remains at large, officials said. "In one instance, they saw a bear leaving their home as they were pulling up the driveway," according to N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Special Projects Biologist Ashley Hobbs.

Salmon are at risk with federal plans to give farmers more water from Shasta Lake, critics warn

The Trump administration says it will increase the water it's sending to Central Valley farmlands this year from Shasta Lake, the state's largest reservoir.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation said agricultural water agencies south of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta will receive 25% of their total contracted amount, up from an initial 20%. Cities and towns will also get more from the federal canals that are part of the Central Valley Project.

The agency cited "modest improvements" in reservoir levels after some rainstorms in April.

Environmental and fishing groups reacted to Tuesday's announcement with concern, saying that taking too much water out of Shasta Lake threatens to harm Chinook salmon by depriving them of vital cold water in the Sacramento River in the late summer and fall.

"This is really bad," said Vance Staplin, executive director of the nonprofit Golden State Salmon Assn.

The Trump administration's plan, he said, "is likely to kill salmon."

The Gravel Bar / Low water levels force closure...

Low water levels force closures at W. Kerr Scott Lake in Wilkesboro

Low water levels have forced closures at W. Kerr Scott Lake, according to a press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The lake is currently well below its normal pool elevation of 1,030 feet. As of Friday, the lake elevation is 1027.67 feet and falling.

If the lake level continues to drop, boat ramps on the lake will become unusable and will be forced to close.

Due to low water levels, Berry Mountain Park and Boomer Park will not open this Memorial Weekend. Fort Hamby swim beach and Bandits Roost campground swim beach will also be closed as well.

Boaters are encouraged to use caution as water levels continue to drop, as trees and rock outcrops that are normally submerged at a safe depth become hazardous at current levels.

Look heavier than what they are.  Youngest is just carrying her sleeping bag, spare clothes and spare pair of shoes. Oldest has all that and the two hammocks and her sleeping pad.  I'm the pack mule for them.  My pack was 50 lbs going in.  Mile is nothing though.   For a longer trip we could pair down the unnecessary stuff and sub it out for more food.  Lose hammocks, axe, etc.

Going out with the rock IDK what it was

Good dad!

I wish I had known you and gals were there.  I could have added some late-night fun with a gorilla/bigfoot costume and weird animal sounds.  Coordination between us would have been required so you did not shoot me.

That is a great spot -- remember catching over the limit of stocked rainbows on velveeta cheese balls when the hatchery truck broke down at the crossing and was forced to dump the haul in the small tributary.

Your gals gravitating towards science and the outdoors -- I like it!

hot, 91 or so, hardly a cloud to be seen.

Looking for a hatch that never really materalized, swung up a handful on soft hackles. Waited for some surface action. Saw one fish rise, tied on a puff daddy and found a fish that was looking up. Kept waiting for it to turn on, it never did and didn't look promising so I spit. I'm not a fan of the low flow river, at 87 cfs from the dam it no longer speaks to me. Jis say'in

X2   They did raise it back up a little today, but brown trout and these high sun, low water days in May don't go together very well.   Rumors of rain coming, do the rain dance...
