Title: Old fly tying stuff, looking for good home
Post by: itieuglyflies on August 03, 2016, 19:23:20 PM
A friend of a friend said he had a lot of fly tying stuff that was given to him from a deceased family member and wanted to know if I wanted it.I was told it was a lot but that turned out to be an understatement! How about right at 9,000 hooks! Coffee can after coffee can ( thirty or so) of feathers, buck tail pieces, dubbing, ostrich plumes, calf tails, porcupine quills, the list goes on. los and lots of dyed hackles and some good stuff too. I was surprised how the sealed coffee cans kept the bugs out. Now it is all mine. My guess is the stuff is from the sixties

The hooks are Mustads made in Norway,Edward Sealey and Sons (Reddick England), Viellard-Migeon(France), plus good old Herters. Lots of sizes of each. My guess is lots of this stuff came from a fly shop as some of the boxes have a per hook cost written on the boxes. Most are full boxes of 100.

So if any of you are interested in old stuff....say if you use glass or cane rods...and would like your flys to also go back in time. I might be able to help you. Yes, I tie flies and plan to keep some stuff. Truth is I already have more tying shit than I could use in two lifetimes but this puts me over the limit.

I am just looking for some fellow BRFFF members, that might appreciate and use some of this stuff.

If I get any interest I will post a list and perhaps some pics.

I have one. Hardly used. Hit me up. I'd let every stitch of tying material/tools go with it. I don't have time to tie very often these days....I just buy my flies nowadays.

Are the feathers and hair still soft, webby, flexible, etc.? If not dried out, I might be interested in some of that.
