Title: Camping and Fishing
Post by: ryguy on November 05, 2018, 07:42:43 AM
There is a nice tucked away lake in Virginia that holds the promise of brook trout.  Figuring the recent weather would have the water temps dropping, and maybe the trout moving out of the depths and into more shallow feeding areas.  It was armed with these hopes that led my buddy and I to load up my canoe and his kayak and head west for hopefully great fishing, and a nights camping.

Upon arrival the 15-20mph winds were really stirring up the lake.  Paddling was difficult at best, making me wish I had a motor.  No fish caught on Saturday despite our best efforts.  Did try casting my 11 weight with a large Musky fly.  Wow was that different!

We headed way up into the mountains, giving my Tacoma a good workout.

Cigars and the remnants of a bottle of Knob Creek were brought out..

The fire, because a good fire picture is a necessity:

Sunday morning found cold temps in the low 30s, and we quickly broke camp and began the drive out.  The lake was calm, but we decided to fish the river below.  No fish pictures but the 1 we did catch was beautifully colored up and came off right before he was able to be photographed.
Water was like this:

Thanks for reading this far down.  Now to perfect my camping set up so my 3 year old can start going.
Next up is trying to catch a Musky and working on the raft..

Trying to fish the Smith over Thanksgiving if anyone is up that way and the water level is ok.
