Hey guys, I know there has been some information floating around here about the development of the Big Creek Lodge on the N Mills River.  If you want your opinion heard on the subject, here are some suggestions.  I borrowed this info from another site.  It is written by someone who has been working on the preservation of the land since the beginning:

Ladies and Gents,

The idea of the federal government helping pay for purchasing some or all of the Big Creek Lodge property has been presented to Representative Shuler. They have been watching the situation and it will be their determination if they want to push for federal funding. If they decide to it will be because they hear from the local community.

The message to them is simply this:
1. This is an important priority for us.
2. We hope that all or a portion of the property can be preserved.
3. Please help us with conservation dollars.

I think they have until Friday to determine if this will be a priority for them. Therefore, it would be beneficial if the local interested people contact Shuler's office via fax, e-mail, or phone to reiterate their support for this potential. If you have already contacted Representative Shuler about this issue, please do it again.

Thank you very much for acting on your wishes.

The initial application for the development was withdrawn by the developer because he knew it was getting denied.  People are still negotiating with him to buy the land.  We are not out of the woods yet

I think the developer is actually trying to sell the land to a conservation group.  This situation is a prime example of what the local voice and opinion can do.  Trout Unlimited, along with some other conservation groups, stepped in and made there voice heard...Another great reason to join TU.

That's good news.  I don't blame the guy for wanting to make a profit, but I think he should be happy doubling his money by selling to the conservation group instead.

Really good news!   ;D
