J and I hatched up a plan to hit some water that is largely inaccessible by 'civilians'.   I'm not one who has desired to trout fish with others, but I thought it may be worth a try. 5 years ago, this trip would have not been feasible due to rhodo thickets, but presumably due to hardwood canopy choking out sunlight, the rhodo died a few years back, and the dead material is breaking down. Remote access in and out.

We headed out after seven, and ended up at the starting point not long after 8. Things were a bit awkward at first.  New water, new fishing companions, and the going was slowish at first, but things started to move better the second half of the day. About 3 miles of water was covered.  We were greeted by a bald eagle, saw some monster coyote tracks, and some bear scat. Not unfriendly signage was seen.

Stream was ok, prime habit was scattered, but we caught fish. Lotta cookie cutter browns around 8-9 inches, but some nice ones were lost.

J tied on a streamer for this pool.  This happened to be one of the better ones.

No mishaps today.  This stream is rather slick, we had spills, and feet are stressed.

Nice going bozos. J didn't get the message to wear earth tone colors. Ken, you are a sneaky bastard for sure. Doug will be jealous and may have to visit the land of the damned.

Ken, brining the goods...  :cheers

This stream is a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Meh.

Echo what Ken said.  This stretch of stream has been on my radar for a while.  Haven't found anyone dumb brave enough to fish it.  Ken and I talked and hammered out the details on entry and exit for a few weeks.  Entry was rough but not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be.  Bushwhack down to a trib and then follow the trib down.  The stream fished good.  Couple dozen cookie cutter 8-9 inch browns with a handful bigger.  Ken stung a nicer one and I moved a couple bigger browns.  Stream was one of the harder streams to wade that I've fished.  Lots of ledges and smooth angled rocks.  Ken and I both took a couple solid falls.

I promise you these fish were easier to catch than Smith River browns  :laugh:

Ken had one brown eat 3 times 1 ft in front of him because he kept talking to me not paying a attention to his fly.  set the hook, slapped it back down, turned to say something to me, brown took fly again, I yelled at Ken to set the hook, missed him, slapped it back down, turned to me laughing, yell set the hook because he ate again, and repeat  :laugh:

Nice!  -+;

Is that a Ross Colorado reel?  Use a #0 on 3 wt. that I love.  Great reels.
