The rain has been pretty hit and miss lately around here and generally it has been raining everywhere in town and most of the streams have been dodging the rain.  We knew our work would be cut out for us yesterday but really didn't expect fishing as slow as what we encountered.  The overall size and numbers of decent fish we encountered was pretty pitiful for this stream.  You'd get a bite on almost every drift but I wasn't setting the hook on a fourth of the fish that would eat, it was a dink feeding frenzy.  It was good though to be out on a fairly remote section of stream and stretch the legs on a 6+ mile trip.

I snapped this pic at the trail-head while waiting on The Dude to arrive.  Early start.

This was a bad omen as it were.  This was the first fish of the day that I caught, first hole I fished, 3rd cast, and boom.  I had walked upstream a bit before starting fishing and I was by myself so I wasn't able to get any good hero shots, so this will have to do.

To cap it all off, I had a fish break me off, half my leaders and two flies shortly after I caught that first brown.  He wanted to run, and he did.  Hated to lose that fish.   b';

Well, the fish you pictured did not match your bitching.  :laugh:

Mighty fine day and SLAM, imho.   y;

Nice brown, looks like it came from the hole I was talking about last time. If it is that one, I saw it there last year too so it's been in there for at least two years.

Plenty of good days lie ahead, mid to late September/ October is prime time for that stream.

It came from further down than the hole I have pictured.  It came from the big hole just up from where we kicked those cairns down.  I think you fished it actually when we were there.

So this is a bad day eh? I'm sure it kills in the cooler months.

Big J

I could use a day like that  V:;

You can't land an otter on 7x. Now I know - Dougfish

I'll take that any day with much less bitching, especially this time of year!   :laugh: Nice fish, and looks like the specks are starting to color up some already. If that's the creek I think it is, it's one of my favorites.

Those fish in that drainage are almost always colored up.

That brown did kind of make the trip for me.  I wish you had heard my screams for help so I could have gotten a proper hero shot of the brown and not all folded up in the net.

Nice fish. I would have loved to complain about dinks caught on my outing this weekend.
