It used to be a way to help prevent sun/wind burn in big open water, but has been adopted as standard issue by the flat bill hat big sunglasses crowd.

That's what bothered you?!?!? The meretricious spew led off with head scratching; what kind of angler uses a vehicle air freshener, black ice scent to boot?
My truck smells like pipe tobacco, ass, ramps, and now wet dog. The inside of the windows are so filmed from smoke it is like looking at the world through an opal. I enjoy a smelly, nasty vehicle.

I guess it is when you are hiking in jeans and waders with a rod tube. Really have to slow it down and get different shots of this bizarre behavior.
Mudwall, I agree. The close shot of this fellows car scent of choice was a nice touch.
P.S. your truck smelled like wet dog before you got the dog. I never wanted to ask you why though and just left that puzzling question alone.
Good videos, Muddy, thanks! I think I was born about a century or five too late sometimes. My truck smells like Winston lights, skunk, and ramps at the moment.

Damn good writing Muddy
I thought I was going night blind once a few years ago. Then my wife took some kind of blue liquid in a squirt bottle and cleaned the smoke film off the inside of my windshield. It was a miracle! I could see again. :)
That NC video had the sickest nymphing montage ive seen.
my favorite part was the $200 sunglasses and $5 dollar fly rod.
He was right proud of that doughbelly. I'd have knocked it in the head and threw it on the smoker.
Id have never made such a pointless fucking video.

Funny it was, at least the first part I watched. I stopped at the point where he switched hands to get the line back on the reel. No one, I mean NO proper angler, does this, and if they do, they need to have their fishing license revoked until they can reel with their non-casting hand and display some fucking fly angling decorum.
I gravitated back up the page to Sarah X, a much more pleasing view,
If you switch hands, it feels like someone else is doing it? Is that what you're saying?

Dayum is right. I've fished Upper Creek around Greentown trail many times (not any more). That water is crazy high in the video!
Here is another good one. I haven't fished Steeles, and doubt the opportunity will ever avail itself.
There are some moves on this vid that I cannot comprehend. Sliding down a 30' high face, and turning sideways on the way down to land in a 4' long pool is simply incredible (:50). The last eddy turn above the second 30ish footer (1:42) is also incredible.
http://youtu.be/yQYB0pL5Tnk
Per description, I presume this is the upper Upper section they are running. Phil, can you confirm this? I don't know a soul who has fished this section. Watershed cannot be more than a couple square miles.

Yes, that is Upper Creek well above the falls. I simply cannot imagine kayaking it. I fished it once about 25 years ago and it was a brutal hike/rock climb/fish. The water wasn't anything remotely that high, of course. Those guys are nuts.

The Trump administration is proposing to redefine a key term in the Clean Water Act: "Waters of the United States." This deceptively simple phrase describes which streams, lakes, wetlands and other water bodies qualify for federal protection under the law.
Government regulators, landowners, conservationists and other groups have struggled to agree on what it means for more than 30 years. Those who support a broad definition believe the federal government has a broad role in protecting waters – even if they are small, isolated, or present only during wet seasons. Others say that approach infringes on private property rights, and want to limit which waters count.

Quote from: undefinedThere’s an assumption that the fishing industry is more sustainable than livestock farming. It’s why eco-conscious millennials ease their consciences with a pescatarian diet. But new documentary film Artifishal (on limited release in cinemas from April) might make them think again.
It tells of commercial fishing operations that have severely reduced the world’s salmon stocks, leaving oceans and rivers sparse. Though that may not be news, the filmmakers uncover some pretty shocking stats to add to the impact.
In Norway, for example, the number of farmed salmon escaping from open water net farms each year is higher than the population of native salmon in the country’s fjords, says activist Mikael Frödin. And those penned-in stocks appear on-screen as a deformed, diseased and depressed-looking bunch. The escapees end up competing with native populations for food, as well as interbreeding, which Frödin fumes is tantamount to “undoing natural selectionâ€.
Elsewhere, the problem has reached such heights that US lawmakers have been forced to outlaw open water nets off the coast of Washington State, after researchers found direct correlations between a sharp decline in orca population and the number of escaped Atlantic salmon into the Pacific, which displace indigenous varieties.
It’s more than a subtle nudge that Europe should follow their lead. And arguably a violent jolt to consumers (and any complacent fish suppliers) that fish shouldn’t fall outside the scope of the ongoing debate on sustainable food.

This may help restore your faith in humankind.
When asked by the local school principle to rejoin the ranks of substitute teachers, the Mrs. insisted I take the offer. She alluded that I have not been myself since my parents passed, and she knows that only kids and the elderly could discipline the bear in my belly. I knew it as well, and my flirtation with everything from the local radio station gig to revisiting traditional archery did not interrupt the funk or boost the spirit. Not even fishing could break the malaise. Turkey hunting came close, but April is a long way off, and delivering meal-on-wheels to the local seniors helps.
So, I have substituted preschool, PE, and 1st grade in the opening 10 days of school, and I can tell you, acts of kindness, like this video are more common than most of us would grasp.
I already feel the uplifting. Again, 'there is no emerging civil war and we're not going down the tubes'. Not if we follow the lead of the children.

Thanks for sharing Keith. Depressing to the few that care, but unfortunately the vast majority in our population don't know and don't care. Even our coastal wild fisheries are being threatened as more folks demand supplemental stocking of flounder, red drum and other species, similar to what has been done in states like South Carolina and Texas.

Young filmmaker's fly-fishing short introduces viewers to salmon conservation
https://youtu.be/3q7WwdeW_SQ
>>>As he attempts to sleep at night, high school student Benji Bridle cannot help but review the images trapped in his head from a day spent on the river fly-fishing.
How the sun or rain hits the water, the silver slap of a struggling salmon, or the beauty of the sport itself, all play out in Bridle's mind.
Recently, the aspiring cinematographer drew on his bank of nighttime imaginings as fodder for an award-winning film.
Bridle, 16, won for best screenplay at the 2020 Vancouver Island Youth Film Festival (VIYFF) in late February for his beautifully shot short film, Get Reel, which examines his pathway to — and newfound passion for — conservation through the sport of fly-fishing.

Mariusz Wroblewski, Wild Salmon Center's Western Pacific program director, took the long road home. Pressured out of Poland as a dissident in the 1980s, he'd heard of the great salmon and trout rivers here in North America. He set out for them not knowing exactly what he would find nor how things would turn out. Following the fish would take him around the globe again, before settling in Portland, Oregon.
Mariusz's piece was filmed on the Deschutes River, traditional territory for many Chinookan and Sahaptin speakers, including the Warm Springs and Wasco bands.

Yes, Sears is a hack-in-the-box, but this shit deserve a to be mocked.

So this video is for Striper enthusiasts.
@itieuglyflies, you need to see this. This vid was shot a few days ago, and I know where this spot is located. I'll just say it is at the lower Piedmont/Coastal Plain Fall Line in the Pamlico basin. It is not a tailwater where stripers come through the dam. These are bona fide river dwellers/stragglers descended from oceanic fish.
The smallmouth might be in the shitter, but it appears the stripers may be worth a look. They've had plenty of high water to spawn in during the last 8 years, and now the big rivers are all cleared up due to the dryer weather.

A man floating naked on a log in the Nolichuckey River was finally resuced this afternoon after refusing several rescue efforts.

update: Susan Robinson Craig is with David Craig.

I have to brag on my husband: apparently there was a man on a log in the rain-swollen river today. Attempts had been made to throw the man a rope off the Kinser bridge, but those weren't successful. A friend called David, knowing we live right on the river, and asked if he could throw the man a life preserver we keep ready for emergencies. David tried, but the rope was about 3' too short. David then grabbed a life jacket off the jet ski and drove down to Bird's Bridge where he successfully threw the life jacket to the man as he passed under the bridge. We later learned that the man had been rescued by boat near Kinser Park. Proud that David was able to be a small part of that effort. Grateful to have the services of our local rescue squad and law enforcement, too!
QuoteGreene County Rescues Man Naked On Log In Nolichucky River
Cocke County authorities may have had to help in evacuations Tuesday night, but it pails in comparison to what Greene County authorities had to deal with on Wednesday afternoon... a naked man floating down the Nolichucky River on a log. The man identified as 52 year old Troy Hunt was first spotted by a motorist crossing a bridge on the Erwin Highway around 11:30...the man was singing "God Bless The USA" while riding the log on the river. Greene County rescue officials made numerous attempts at several bridges to rescue Hunt...but he would not grab a rope. At one time, he accepted a life jacket thrown to him, but tossed the rope aside...continuing to ride down the river naked on a log. Officials eventually were able to get to him in a boat off the Kinser Park boat ramp. All total the man rode 15 miles in 2 1/2 hours naked on a log in the Nolichucky River. He was charged with disorderly conduct and indecent exposure. In the immortal words of Randy Travis...now pray for the fish.
Meth is a powerful drug <-;: Rescue- "Hey you on the log what's your name" Man floating on log in river naked "Huck Finn". Rescue "Grab the rope when we throw it to you Huck", Man floating on log in river naked "no thanks, I just want a beer and a cigarette" <-;:
I would love to hear this story of how you end up naked on a log floating down the river singing God Bless The USA. That river is no joke when it's not flooded. I almost drown years ago trying to canoe down it.

I'm having some issues in that area too. These herniated disk in my back are pinching some nerve in my leg and groin that make me get erections just out of the blue. Really sensitive to, like when you were 12. I get as hard as old people's toe nails. A nurses and 2 physical therapists tried to give me their phone numbers when I told them. Neither are my type though, too old, and too tall.

Had to make a trip to Roanoke to the nearest cobbler for some leather work a couple of weeks ago. I saw a beautiful young gal in an eatery. I kept thinking, don't get an erection, don't get an erection, don't get an erection, but then she did.
Clearly, I need to clean the frit on the probe of my poonmeter. Or better, I should just throw the damn thing away; it ain't worked worth a damn in years.

UNLIMITED; THIS LADY MAY BE A BRFFFIAN?
I've fished some of the Deep. Floated the 6 mile section below Ramseur several times, a short section below Randleman, a small section below Coleridge, and between Howards Mill Rd, and Bear Creek. The latter thus far has treated me the best. Fish Whisperer has fished all up and down the Glendon area down to the confluence of the Rocky. The flat sections down low are awash with bass. Roanokes stack up at Coleridge, and High Falls dam in the Spring.
White Pine Preserve is worth visiting. The Rocky enters in there. The Rocky is rough as heck down low. Not sure if wading is feasible in the Deep down that way. It is a bit rocky, so it well may be provided the water flows are not high.
Lot of history here as well. This river was polluted horribly during the textile age, but is alive and kicking, and has some quite remote sections w/minimal access.

pretty exciting finish to the Kentucky Derby ...
Rich Strike was full of himself after the race, much to the dismay of the outrider and his pony. Bites the pony a few times, grabs the outrider's right rein in his mouth. Outrider pulling to get the rein out causes the pony to rear. Yikes. I've ponied a couple race horses: had a stallion try to mount my pony, but never had one bite this much.

Dem Green River Rats are crazy
The entrance to Gorilla, the rapid shown in the video below is enough to make one puke. The river chokes tight, plunges down a sticky a backender chute, and there is near zero time for one to get composed before being tossed over the top. The water flow in this vid looks juicy, this probably due to highish flows coming down Hungry River. Navigating a slot 4' wide atop of a class V rapid with 350 cfs pushing through it ain't for the faint of heart.

Oh, then once you get hurled over the main plunge, speed trap (just upstream of the dude doing clean up), stops many dead in their tracks, spits them out only to be faced with three back to back ledges 10' with nasty hydraulics.
I only ran Pillow Rock (Upper Gauley)nonce, but is one heck of a rapid, and the best ride I've ever been on. The wave action near the bottom is awesome. Lots of speed and energy in this rapid.

Alewives heading up Mill Brook to Highland Lake
The fish run, highly visible at the Mill Brook Preserve in Westbrook, is on and could continue for anywhere from days to a month.
>>>The alewives migration is back in full swing this season, a phenomenon that draws thousands of visitors to the Mill Brook Preserve in Westbrook each year.
The alewives were first spotted last week, and the run is expected to last anywhere from a week to a month as the fish make their way from Casco Bay and upstream through the preserve to lay eggs in Highland Lake in Windham.
The migration is most visible where Mill Brook pools, attracting hundreds of fish that circle before making their way farther upstream.
