(from June 26)

After  probably 15 outings and more than years worth of moons, I finally intentionally landed a carp on the fly (This excluded the unintentional carp I landed on a squirmy wormy on the "dream stream" section of the S. Platte pictured in my blog's background.  It was my first fish on the "dream stream" which felt like a dream at first tug, and more like a scene from a hypnotist's comedy routine once I realized my twenty inch trout was a stinking carp).  One change of locations completely changed my luck.  Same lake, but a different spot than I had visited the last 12 times.  It only took two trips, totaling 3 hours cumulatively, two put my first two carp-on-the-fly on the board with a blue channel cat to boot.  The first location that I thrashed for the previous 14 months held carp, but required wading super skinny water, which inevitably lead to spooked carp, which shut down the hole with pheromone alerts.  I hooked two in the old mud flat, with one spit hook and one broken hook.

The new locale is boss. It allows me to walk manicured shoreline, all the while dodging copious amounts of goose excrement,  for about a quarter of a mile without ever seriously spooking fish. Aside from never disturbing the water with my feet, I stand 2 feet above the water instead of knee deep in the water, giving me better perspective for sight fishing. My first common was small, but my second was a slimey five pounds that put a good bend in the 7 weight. I'm stoked to have a honey hole 15 minutes from the house for a quick trip to scratch my itch when I can't haul it up to the mountains for troots. I don't always fish, but when I do I prefer trout...nonetheless, count me in for carp.

Good stuff!  Be careful though...carp are like meth.  One hit and before you know it you're toothless, out of a job, bumming around the deepest, darkest depths of your local city's waterways, offering "favors" for a new seven weight, tying carp bugs for 72 hours straight, immersing yourself in human excrement for just one more taste of gold.

Snag knows.

In my experience, 80% of carp fishing is finding the right fish.  Looks like you found 'em.   'c;

Fine.  You win.  But i will continue to maintain that i have no idea how this '#' has any relevance in my life or the lives of others.  Save a kid, delete facebook.

facebook is now just a advertising agent targeted for middle aged people's money. it's dying.  all the young ones are on twitter and instagram. twitter is real dumb. total self glorified self promotion, kind of like our fly fishing board here.

as for hashtags, they allow you to search social media for other post or pictures with the same hashtag.  for instance, if I tapped #carponthefly or #flyfisning on instagram i would see a bunch of other pictures that had that same hashtag that I wouldn't have been able to find otherwise.  and like bullship commented #hashtagsareareanexcellentformofhumordelivery  snag, your #yourteenagegirlcommentisagreatexample

hashtags are here to stay...for atleast like a year or something...

Carpmaster?

I will say carp epitomize the saying, only a face a mother could love.

I haven't been on the twitter bandwagon, but do I like Instagram, it is self glorification as well.

The one thing I will say about Twitter, which I've searched hashtags on such as AVLNEWS is that you can find out about events pretty instantly from users tweets.  There was flooding recently in a cove just north of my house and there were pics and videos all over twitter that I could search for online well before any of the news outlets were updating stuff on Facebook or otherwise online.  That to me is pretty cool.

Facebook is only as good as who you are friends with and what they are posting.
