it's from a piedmont stream ;)-- they'll be hatching in the mtns soon though.
Very nice shots!
Are these from the aquarium or the stream?
You beat my post 0--0
It's funny, I got the aquarium set up the other day, and then my sister showed me this one on the siding of our house. Imagine that, an 11yr old girl able to identify a mayfly. ;D
How do you train them to sit so still ???
It's my soothing voice. 8)
those are some pretty bugs... you got the skills to pay the bills

The Hendrickson is the name of the fly Pattern....
It was an old new england pattern that had been around for several years, the tier named it after his good friend and fishing companion Mr. Hendrickson.

The pattern was originated by Roy Steenrod, student of Theodore Gordon. First tied in 1916 to matche the hatch on the Beaverkill. Steenrod was fishing the Beaverkill with A. E. Hendrickson, an Exec of the U.S. Trucking Corp., Steenrod tells that one day he was sitting on the bank of the stream about 2 years after he first tied the pattern, when he discussed what to call the fly with his friend. He told his best friend, "the fly is the Hendrickson!" and so it is...
And a nymph-- probably Siphloplecton.

Caleb:
These pic's would be perfect to add to the entomology gallery we have.
This way we can always find them for reference, in one easy location.
It would be cool to get a good naturals library going here.
TP
I second that idea. It certainly would help me out tremendously
Great job C-Man You have become an entomologist as well as a photographer over the years since I first meet you. Thanks for sharing.
Here Here !!!!!
I think a natural's gallery would be udderly stupendous !!!!
Better than looking at TP's ugly o' flies anyway ;D

I am working on this problem Bru, and I ask for your patients.
I have taken the advice of a Professional tyer, and spent the morning casting flies to some dog shite piles, I have purposely left on my lawn as a practice tool.
I know that advice given suggested the piles would move, but they don't move even when I come close, admittedly I have not actually hit the target yet, but I think it is more a function of casting, rather then what the actual fly looks like. Other parameters come into play here , line weight, wind speed, distance..ect.
I think I will try to solve this by moving closer to the target, and practicing pin point landing.
I will keep you posted, and let you know if in fact the pile does move. ;D
TP: are you a docter? ::)
nope, just a fisherman.
well then Bru won't give you any patients thats for sure. >:D
