I was lazy. I got up an hour before daylight, but my wife was baking cinnamon rolls. I ain't going no damn where yet.

After gaining three pounds, I headed out across the ridge into the GSMNP. It was cloudy, foggy, drizzley. The creek was a wee bit off color.

Rigged up my nymph rod with a pair of heavy flies weighted with tungsten beads and lead wire, and added a split shot for good measure.

Caught a bazillion of these:

But, they weren't the flavor of the day...

The browns were on the prod. I caught them right and left, from littluns to bigguns. The biggest one I got into the net was right at 18", but I hung one way bigger that just picked my shit up and toted it off. It got out into the whitewater current, and I couldn't follow it downstream without swimming through a 10' deep hole. It parted my 4x tippet like thread when I tried to clamp down on it.

After the sun came out about 1 PM, I headed upstream and rigged the dry fly rod with an October Caddis. Fun was had. Bunch more bows, one 9 1/2" brown, and a few specks.

On the way out, I met this guy. Bugling every fifth breath, and growling the other four. Strings of snot and foam hanging from his nose. I gave him a wide berth.

All in all, a pretty good morning.

That's an eastern pronghorn antelope, not a moose (easily confused with each other,) and it's quite healthy, just rutted out and on the prod wanting to fight and fuck. It was mauling a spambot the last I saw of it.
