this and that..

so I went to the Blue Ridge TU meeting with Hunter and Scott Enloe, owner of the River's Edge Outfitters, and President & Captain of the NC Fly Fishing Team & his son.

There presentation was on European nymphing and competitive fly fishing 11 foot 2 weight rods, 22 foot leaders, Trout Hunter tippets and a total mind fuck.

The had fished the Mitchell river before the meeting and claimed to have caught 340 fish in four hours between the two of them...


Now I'm thinking I need a new rod...  -0-

Fuck it i'm going fishin,,,,

But I did buy a new 14' leader and some 6.5 x tippet 

Camera battery was dead, so I only had the iPhone...

Went up to the Smifff, old special regs section to see what kind of trouble I could get into...

Bugs were on the water and there were a few steady risers working while I rigged up the rod 14' leader and 2 ft of 6.5x mono ... but before I got to the fish a flock of kayaks and canoes banged their way through the run.

It was twenty minutes before the fish started to rise again 

I whacked three or four back to back. I caught 8 or 10 more, then there was a lull and I waited for the hatch to take off.

About an hour later, action started to pick up again, but there was not a whole lot of bug or risers... but the fish were eager to take the puff daddy, dead drift and with the twitch.













about 2 dozen fish were caught...all on dries..

18 feet of leader is a lot to manage....

I don't need no stinkin' 11 ft rod, but I'm still thinking about it....

I helped my girl with her math homework the other night and one of the questions asked why the answer was what it was. She asked me what I thought and I said 'because math is truth'.

340 fish/ 2 angling anglers = 170 fish ea.
Each angler fished for 4 hours.
4 hours x 60 mins = 240 mins
240 mins/ 170 fish = bullshit.
Truth is that's some bullshit.

Regarding those Mitchell trout pros, in my mind at the end of the day anybody that counts fish to specific numbers is full of shit.  That to me is one of my big bullshit indicators.
