Before switching to trouts for the summer I thought I would see if I could find any life in the river, plus run gasoline out of the motor on my Shad boat.
What a difference a few weeks makes. During Shad season this parking lot is full.....humm, not a good sign.

No boats to be seen, either up or downstream.

But second or third cast starting catching these. The ole simple Clouser was the ticket.

Also, had some by-catch to content with.

After a couple dozen fish this fly was looking a little sad but, one more cast.....yep.

The east coast striper population is in decline but I was happy to see several year classes in the mix. Mashed down the barbs to make unhooking easier and to protect these great fish.

Good report,Fred -- Bet that flat head had you thinking "monster striper" for a few minutes . I think that I would have put that channel cat in tha grease
