Migay, I have a serious question. This has kept me up at night since reading your introduction. Is the first half of your name pronounced "my" or "me"? I'm not judging, just curious.

Woolly Bugger

Headed up the road to catch the falling water and hopefully an evening hatch.
As I approached town, I noticed that the river was extremely muddy. I drove on hoping the upper river would be clear.
Town creek was muddy but I was still hopeful that any stain would still be fishable. As I was hiking in Old Man Phillpott pull up in his pickup, he offered some advise and offered my a ride down to the end of the field. I declined and continued to hike on down. The water had just started to fall an wading in the river was a little dodgy. I brought along two rods, 4 wt for dries and a 6 wt sink tip for streamers. I started off with a zoo cougar but the fast water and short sink tip wasn't getting the job done. Switched to a conehead slumpbuster and the game was on! Although I heard there aren't many if any baitfish this far up the river, the stunted browns were all over the green rabbit! The action continued until I noticed some bugs popping and a few risers. Switched rods and got one, just on one the dry during the last half hour of light.

Days are getting shorter and I had to stop at 9:05!
Peepers and Fireworks greeted me on the way out.

ex - I'm not going to live with you through one more fishing season!
me -There's a season?

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Way to adapt, boss. Nice fish! 'c;

If that "LIVE FISH" truck went through Bassett / Henry County half the population would be following it. :o b'; b';

I needed to get out. A couple of weeks without fishing had me in a foul mood. Family stuff, life stuff, you know.
Went to visit a friend. A friend who loves me, a friend who kicks my ass.
The Smith.

Scooted down the road to catch the falling water of a early generation. Met up with Pwolley on the way for a shady parking lot reel for cash exchange.
Old Medalist finds a worthy owner. He got his 1492, I reversed the flow of reels coming in by one.
A fellow Roanoker I didn't know followed me into the lot, and we suited up trying to high hole each other.
We walked down through the hayfield together.
Ended up he wanted to jump in waaaay higher than me in slack water. Bye, sucker!
The water was off color and coming down fast. I tied on the only bugger in the box.  b';

Unlike the true Bugger, I only had one fish fall to the stripped offering.
The water dropped, the dry/dropper rig went on. I started small.

Stashed a beer, hit a dependable section. Meh.
Caught a few. Not as productive as it should have been.

Hit some slack water and fish were rising. WTF, lets do this.
Switched to a more delicate landing dropper. Game. On.

The last pic doesn't do the upper Smith brown justice. He would not sit for a hand held pic. 15" of brown in 9" of water. Jumped like a tarpon.
He did not want to pose for a hand held shot.
I was a hundred feet from the walk out. I let him go, clipped the flies off and headed for the truck. Thank you, river.

Tipped a Parkway nod to Roanoke's Beth Macy at the truck. Her award winning book about the Bassett family and the furniture industry is coming out July 15. "Factory Man". Seriously good American story. Parkway brewed an IPA to celebrate. Damned good beer.  'c;
A hell of a writer, a hell of a story, an IPA girl.
Happy to have the local connection.

Why didn't pwolley join you?  Didn't want to miss the blue hairs in the pool at the Y?  He loves them water aerobics...

He was headed to Roanoke for an appointment. Gimpy knee.
Otherwise he would have probably joined me.

PS,

  That Live Fish truck is full of Tilapia on their way to chinatown in chicago, Philly, or New York. Martinsville is home to the world's largest indoor aquaculture facility. Their customers prefer to be shipped live fish.
