Gas $3.39 Temp 55 Skies clear

Squeezing in more trip in February.

With the Smith running too much water, I had to look elsewhere. Back to the small stuff for the day.

Dry dropper day.

Caught a few pune brookies and rainbows.

I was hoping the last fish was a brookie but it turned out to be a rainbow so I would have a photo of a nice sized speck.

The water was damn cold and the fishing was pretty slow.

Gas $4.09  n!n
60 partly cloudy

Got out of the house a bit later than I had intended but with DST I knew I'd have enough time to catch some fish.  I ran into road closures and detours for the Northern Beltway construction that set me back further.

Five vehicles at the trailhead, and one had a trout sticker, so there would be a chance that I would be fishing behind someone, and it sure felt that way for the first twenty minutes.

Tons of wildflowers blooming and more on the way not the mention ramps!!!!

The stream was boisterous from the recent rains but running clear. A few small mayflies were spotted, but unidentified, a #18 quill something or other...

I met 8 or 9 ladies hiking out on my way in, but no sign of any fishermen.

Some trillium on the trail.

Most of the punes took the dropper, but a few smashed the dry.

A few were better fish, and some were released at a distance...

It was cool when the clouds obscured the sun and wind picked up and roared down the gorge pulling line leader and fly off the water at times. War birds flew up the gorge at tree top level shattering the tranquility of the day.

I'm about a mile from the Parkway here at the house-- we're getting gusts I'd estimate at 60+ all day.

#43 Partly Cloudy 72 degrees, gas $3.89

I was hoping that the creek would be fishable, it was flowing clear but quick and I had trouble catching fish as I think they were glued to the bottom, so the walk in the woods was mostly looking at wildflowers...

Your pics inspired me to get out to my honey hole of trout lillies. My pics are nowhere near yours, but it's fun to see the differences in bloom times and emergence in your regions compared to mine.IMG_0774.jpegIMG_0785.jpegIMG_0781.jpegIMG_0785.jpegIMG_0783.jpegIMG_0779.jpegIMG_0769.jpeg

While I haven't hunted for them I do keep an eye out and I've not seen any this year

I found 12-15 right by my drive way in a spot that I have found them b/4. But the rest of my morel pals are finding nothing yet. The warm weather coming this week should help. Right now (7:45 PM ) it is freezing and snowing hard.---- No mushrooms tomorrow

This is quite a beautiful little creek, I enjoy it also. The last time I was here I could've pissed more water into the creek than it already held.

I've only seen one other area that seemed to boast the flora that this one does and that was up at Wilson Creek, NC. It's worth stating that I haven't been at every creek at prime flora-popping time, naturally.

I may head here tomorrow, who knows?

65 mostly sunny, gas $3.45

When I arrived at the trailhead there were already seven vehicles crowded into the parking area and another one pulled up as I was gearing up to wet wade the small creek.

I had planned to start up higher, but there are a couple of spots I like to hit along the way and once I got in the water, I just followed my usual route and with plenty of daylight ahead I could still hit the upper section, but when I reached the end of the usual beat, I saw two anglers coming down the trail. It was Pee-wee and his friend. They hollered at me, and I got out and we talked for a bit. I had been fishing behind them all day and the prospect of continuing became a mental thing and after a brief spell I decided I couldn't continue. I had caught a bunch of small 4-to-5-inch brookies and one that pushed seven. Most I didn't try to take photos of and the few that I did attempt managed to escape before the shutter button was pressed.

Here's what the day looked like minus the fish.

On the way out an Osprey flew up the gorge on a training mission.

How's ol'  Pee-Wee Smoke doing? Last time I saw him he could barely walk. Hope he was moving better!

They made it up a mile above me - I passed them on the way out — they didn't catch up to me by the time I left.
