There is a great opportunity for all you folks who keep saying "I really should fish the Smith" to give it a try. The Smith River TU is hosting a "Fish the Smith River & Cookout" Saturday, June 20th. Meet at the Mirror Factory @ 0830 for fishing and at the foot of Philpott Dam at 3:30 for the cookout.

We will have a lot of the "Smith River Regulars" there to show you the river, including parking spots, river access, etc. We will even fish with you to show you what has worked for us in the past.

We had a good turn out for a similar event last year. Lots of camaraderie and good food at the end. We hope to have the same this year. As an added bonus we are going to invite the COE, DGIF biologists and the DGIF CPO's to come by for the cookout and hopefully share a few words with us about how they view the Smith River fishery.

Don't forget your fishing license. If you don't have one yet the best way to obtain one is online at http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/licenses/ very easy to do. If you are non-resident you can buy a 5 day license for about $15. Stocking season is finished so you can fish the entire river with a basic fishing license.

Don't forget the raffle. We will hold a 50/50 raffle and also have a few fishing related items to raffle off.  Proceeds will go to pay for food and drinks. We don't expect to make a profit but do hope we will break even.
