Big J and I needed to be aired out. Hell, January was almost done and I had wet a line in 2018! Blasphemy!
Water levels still suck balls, but we headed to the SNP. We usually get a good winter bite there.
The day started bright and chilly. Then clouds gradually moved in as the temperatures rose. Started at 32, finished at 60.
Water was chilly. 40 degrees.
We hiked in about 1 1/2 mile and jumped in. Nymphing, holmes. Nymphing.

It started slooow. Then I scored. A minute later, J was on the board.

We moved upstream, picking up some fish here and there. Not slaying them.
And nothing but small fish. We usually score above average from this girl.
Today was below. Needed more.

The day turned grayer. And we switched to dry droppers. If we were going to catch a bunch of small specs, lets make it more entertaining?
And bite they did. It was about 50/50 from then on.

And then we were done. Miles in. No fish over 8". Good but not great numbers.
We have never caught so many small fish on this stream. That is good, though. Recruitment is strong.
We hobbled out. I am out. Of. Shape. Hurting today.

Need mo water & fishing days.

You may not be out of shape.  This weather is making many hurt.

Big J

Need about another inch or two of steady rain spread out over 4 to 5 days.  But the fish made up for lack of size with numbers.  Had one kype jawed brookie take my dry and roll but didn't connect.

This red wearing peckerhead waved on trail as he hiked by and hoped in 50 yards above us.  We quickly rehigh holed him.
