Pay no attention to #9 and #14 (spiders).  Someone was not paying attention in school.

But the others are indeed attractive.  Of the lot, #13, the Spiny Flower Mantis, would be my number 1.

I'm impressed that an '03 Mitsubishi Galant could do 101 mph.  :o

One person is recovering after being rescued from the Smith River in the Ridgeway District in Henry County.

It happened around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. That's when the 911 Center received a distress call from along the river. The initial report stated that someone was off the roadway and would an ATV would be needed to access that person. However, after the Ridgeway District Volunteer Rescue Squad arrived, they found the person was still on a rock in the river and needed swift water rescue.

Sounds like the start of a John Galligan novel. Although disheartening, I can think of much worse ways to go than this.

ATACAMA DESERT, May 19 (Reuters) - On the white plains of Chile's lithium-rich Atacama desert, bright pink flamingos enliven the sprawling salt flats where sporadic blue pools provide much needed hydration.

But flamingo numbers are falling, with a new study linking this to the water extracted by mining firms to pump up brine filled with lithium, the metal used to make batteries for mobile phones, laptop computers and electric vehicles.

Video: An Osoyoos rattlesnake hitches ride in Ferrari to Vancouver

Meet Enzo Ferrari, a Northern Pacific rattlesnake with a need for speed.

Last week, the rattlesnake hitched a ride from Spirit Ridge Lodge in Nk'Mip, Osoyoos to the Ferrari dealership in Vancouver.

The Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. Support Centre Helpline received a call about a snake spotted inside a Ferrari and they were sent a picture.

"To our surprise, a photo determined it wasn't a local Garter snake, but a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake," said the wildlife rescue.

Next construction phase of Dick and Willie Passage to begin next month

>>>HENRY COUNTY, VA – Trail enthusiasts will soon have more ground to cover as construction of Phase 6A of the Dick and Willie Passage will get underway next month.

Once the additional 1.75 miles is constructed, there will be approximately 9.5 miles of paved trail along the former railroad passage.

"The Dick and Willie Passage is an absolute gem for our community and we couldn't be more excited to start Phase 6A of the project," said Henry County Administrator Tim Hall. "Projects like these don't happen overnight. Our Board of Supervisors and community partners deserve credit for having the fortitude to see it to its completion."

It has been very dry in the upper Yadkin Valley lately with few pop up storms.  The pop up storms are the primary culprit for muddy flows.  The Yadkin is clear and low, prime conditions for fishing.  This should hold through the 4th. Those seeking solitude should avoid Elkin on the weekends.  It has turned into a major cluster over the years, much like the Dan.

There is an unofficial access at Rockford, and one can get out at Siloam on the NW side of the bridge, but it isn't easy.  Aforementioned section sees the least amount of use.  A camper from Shoals > Yadkinville Rd would not be a bad choice either. There is a couple miles of backwater ahead of the water intake dam a mile from the takeout.

Not sure how the river has been impacted by years of poor recruitment due to persistent high water.

Also, there is bridge construction at Rt. 67 so the access at East Bend is closed.

Ronbo

I have had reasonable success on the Yadkin so far this year.  Not a ton of fish, but quality fish.  I have caught more spotted bass than I would like, but they pull and will readily eat a clouser.  I agree that the next 10 days or so should be really good if we don't get any storms. I don't mind saying that I am fishing from Roaring river to Elkin and then also wading at Shoals.  Both areas seem to be producing about the same for me.
