Good Guys Still Exist

Headed out to the river yesterday battling a massive hangover. Nothing out of the ordinary I don't guess. Hit the water around 9:30 and was having a hard time getting things going. All of a sudden I hear a grotesque belch that scared the shit of me. Turned around to see two fellas descending upon the hole I was fishing. They pretty much shimmied right up next to me and asked if I minded them fishing that close. With nothing going on and flailing around like an idiot, these guys get down to business. Pulling fish after fish out of the same spot I'd been half-ass working for the last hour. I didn't mind much, you can learn alot by watching people that actually know what the fuck they're doing. I sat on the bank letting my feet warm up and picking their brains. One of the guys gave me an egg pattern which I tied on, and went back to fishing it. Nailed one right where the guy told me they would be sitting. The two fellas decided to take it to another spot, but before they did, waded back over and gave me a bunch of flies that they had been catching em on. The one they were most adamant was the Pigsticker. It blows my mind that fish will eat something that looks like this...


Met another guy who told me about the Williams Fork, not far from where I was fishing. He said it was less that a half mile walk, and with the numb toes I had going on, it didn't sound like a bad idea. After he filled me up with some more flies, I took the hike.


Got this little guy on the Williams Fork, but it was mostly riffles and I headed back to my original spot.



Armed with the flies and tips from the locals, I got into some fish and it felt pretty damn good. Feet were much warmer also...

Made a cast, nailed this guy, and decided it was a good one to end on. Unrigged and took it to the ranch.


It was really nice to see that there are still gentlemen out there willing to help a newbie.
