People on scooters piss me off...

Had the "old" special reg. section to myself today.  Long stressful week forced me to get out this weekend even though I knew the fishing would be tough.

Eager friggin' beaver...

After two hours, I had a LDR on a "descent" brown... b';

Around 12:30 the sun started to peak through the clouds.  I decided to get out of the river and start hunting for a potential rising trout.  I have had mediocre success on the Smith by keying in on actively feeding trout.  No sooner that I started my stalk, I noticed dimples, then more dimples, and more dimples... V:;  This was the beginning of an amazing Olive hatch!!!  I said it was amazing, but for me, it was very challenging.  I only managed just a handful of fish...these Olives were an 18 at best, if not smaller.  It was amazing...it lasted for about 45 minutes to an hour of just non-stop struggling adults blowing across the surface of the water with those little brownies exploding on them!  The hatch didn't end abruptly either, it gradually tapered off, but I continued to see Olives up until about 3:30.

[attach=4]

Since I was a small kid, I have had a slight fascination with trains.  Part of my excitement for the trip was the potential to see a train.  After the BWO hatch tapered off, my train finally came through.  Something very odd happened though!  This train came to a complete stop and not a second later, it started going again.  Usually, if a train stops in this section, two trains are passing each other.  I wonder if he wanted to make sure that the tracks were switched properly?!?!

B&W?

[attach=5]

From 3 or 3:30 until about 4:30, I sat and watched in Wooly's favorite place...nothing...

One more month, and it should get real good!

Went up today because fishing in the shit gets the Karma primed up for the good weather. It snowed a lot. I cursed a lot. Re-layered a lot. covered a shit ton of new water moved some fish and snagged a couple. Sun came out and was quite beautiful. The way home was interesting, saw a large fire in Martinsville, saw a truck flipped into the oncoming lane sitting on its roof on 158, saw a cop slid out into a guardrail under a 40-biz bridge. glad I made it home without dying  V:;.  It was a facking war zone out there. If i see one more chick in uggs my shit will be lost, ready for spring and chicks in sun dresses.. jeebus

Swung through Martinsville to hit the Exxon with the cheap gas and saw a large plume of smoke, then balls of flame started spouting out of it so I pulled over and ate a sandwich and watched that shit burn. Fire trucks whizzed by, I need a better camera, but there's better pics online now anyway. Hopefully Martinsville is still on the map and everyone survived.

West coast, totally different. Now if said ugh wearer were a bit closer to brookings there'd be a good chance the body weren't found fer a few years.
You doing any fishing out there?

Big J

Had guy I know who is a jacked body builder who grew up in California who wears uggs.  He is odd.  I saw him catch a mouse with his bare hands and microwave it.  He is very very odd.

I take great pride in saying no I have not.  I did have one guy who interned at the company I work for who was majoring in accounting and he thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.  He hated working with me.

Big-J just come sit in on my class, apparently young women in their early morning skankerwear love accounting which is funny cause I thought the remedial math would be more their flavor

But seriously it helps to know what my accountant is doing, maybe even edge her outta the picture one day and keep mo of my hard earned money  -+;

Let me explain further, "set the stage" so to speak.  He was wearing those middle-school-math-teacher-thick-brown-rimmed-aviator-shaped-bottle-cap glasses, a camo and khaki vest with way too many pockets, a camo hat, a camo and khaki fanny pack (wish i was making this up, really tried to get a pic), mesh-6"-above-the-knee basketball shorts and motherfucking no bullshit mudstained ugg boots.  I had plenty of time to double check.  That shit occurred.  Total bottom feeder.

On a brighter note, the TV show Portlandia is totally true best i can tell.

Drove thru Brookings, floated 24 miles in 7 days, TR to come.  Glad my new friend Aaron knows Arregon.

Serial killer status, prolly took the uggs off a victim hence the mud

I sent a text to "Mr. I'm a Big Time Steelheader Now", to see if he wanted to explore some more of the mighty Smith River. But, he had no time for the moody trout of the Virginia Tailwater, and he suggested that I should give NCsporksman at try. He wasn't too busy and we left Winston with a cup of coffee from Krankies the next morning.

The river was up a little and stained, we went in at the "Dead Baby" hole. I let the Sporksman lead the way, offering up first chance at the good looking runs. I tried to let him have the far side of the run too, but he insisted that it was my turn and he thought my articulated peanut envy had a better profile in the murky water. Working from top towards the tail I turned a good fish in the middle, I saw it roll on the fly which was perhaps a foot below the surface. A little while later and a little further down the run a good fish slammed the fly. The Spork was kind enough to net it and take the hero shot... While removing the hook, I managed to scrape my finger against the upper teeth of this boy and I notice that I was dripping blood as I released the fish. This was a good fish for the Smith and I declared 'I'm done!', meaning that one fish would make the day, I didn't expect that it would be our last fish. Next time this happens, I going to say, "Nice way to START the day!" so as not to put the jinx on us again.

We fished on for a while there and then moved on to another location where we were surprised to see two other NC trucks in the parking lot. We spied the anglers and made a move to high hole them only to discover they were BRFFF friends, PeeWee and Dean, they were nymphing and weren't planning to hit the high holes in these water conditions. As we negotiated the slick rocks we noticed that the water was getting muddier, taking on a coffee color. The water was really pushing through the runs and it didn't look good. Spork turned a good fish up against the bank in an eddy but that was the only fish we saw up there. Time for lunch and some brewski.

We relocated upstream and stuck out there too. Later we moved on down to the middle section and gave it out last shot at the honey hole. We didn't see any fish, the water was too cloudy to even see a follow. Hiking down to find some more structure, we noticed a kayaker paddling up the river. I wondered where he had put in. "We're going to scare the hell out of him," I commented before I called out "Hello." "Wooly," came the reply from the river. It was BRFFFer FIN in the yak.  "Is there anybody you don't know on the river," commented the Spork. It was quite a coincidence to see someone floating on the river as we had been talking about doing that earlier.  Now all I need is a towee and a jet drive....
