Two years in a row Doug and I have fished this stream in November with the same results, bad results.  I managed to catch a handful, but the bite was SLLLOOOOWWW.  It took about 6 drifts thru the same spot to get a fish to even think about eating.  And the bites were soft.  Doug's stream temp reading was 44 degrees.  Think I'm moving this stream to a spring only stream.  Plus side is it is always good to be back in there, one of the prettier streams in VA.

Caught this guy early on, hit and fought like a wet sock.

This dark guy was cool.

Doug loved fighting this birch.

Slow is better than nonexistent. Good to see you getting out. Hell yea.

Good job gents!  Nice loop, not bad brookies for post spawn, and hat looking better with some wear.

I cannot remember an outing that involved brook trout fishing in Nov-Feb that was successful by any measure.  You would be well served fishing for browns at this point, particularly on the Old Plateau

Somewhat pleased that some here are not too cool to post a trip report.  Some here need a solid flogging.

Winter brookie fishing is the best. Most years my biggest brookie comes in the winter, just not from this stream. SNP is a winter fishing dream.

I've had many poor outings in the winter for brookies, but some good ones as well.

I got next to nothing to add:

Weird day. Starting fishing just about 32, quickly rose to upper 60's. We shucked layers.
A warm breeze came down the river, the sun warmed some pools and runs, and the fish stayed glued to the bottom.
Either a soft bite or no bite. We found one pool with rising fish. Feeding on emerging midges, probably.
I tied on my smallest dry and dropped a thread and CDC emerger off that. Got one fish to swipe at that, and it was over.
April awaits.

The Psilotreta empty cases are certainly more than "nothing".  They make great earrings for your gal (or man).  I hope you and J collected a few.

Shiznit.  We were seeing consistent water temps in the low 50s all day on Saturday.

Winter really showed up yesterday though for anyone doubting its arrival.

23 degrees here with snow on the ground and high wind. Streams not to fish in November? Today, all of them (at least for me).
