What are the key physical differences between the Alabama bass and the Northern Spotted bass (Kentucky Spots)?

Probably the most striking difference is the shape.  Northern Spotted bass have a massive abdominal cavity, tend to be chunky on the underside as a result.  Lines tend to be bronze, and not more blackish.  Kentucky spots always look like they have a fully engorged stomach even when it is empty.  They have an enormous capacity in terms of what they can hold.  That being said, I've been sacrificing some spots to science, only to discover these big gutted fish were running on empty.

Alabama bass lines are darker overlaying a more gold colored body.  Alabama bass are much more slender.  Things get murkey when they cross with each other.  This is happening on the Yadkin near Kerr Scott, and will probably also happen in the Cape Fear as well.

The Alabama bass will be a much better fit for the Cape Fear than the Kentucky Spots, but obviously the largemouth belong here.  Bass up to 7 pounds used to inhabit the waters of the Cape Fear from Buckhorn dam down to the coast.
