i brought the fly rod along  but was told that I should be paddling and not fishing...

still managed to get a few to bite and even brought a decent fish to hand  ;hb

water is in PRIMO condition!

Smallies are thugs waiting in an alley, will mug anything that looks good.
Structure in the river -- eddies -- up against the bank

Long drifts! Like forever and then some more...
of course some will hit it as soon as it hits the water.... others will inspect it for 1/2 hour before taking it.
