I should just go trout fishing.  :embarassed:

I've fished a local to me public lake twice and dicked around on a smallie river nearby, both eat up with cicadas. Carp in the lake aren't eating them, yet, and spook when it hits the water. Smallies could care less. So far I've caught one rainbow, one largemouth and 2 sunfish.

This brood must taste bad.

Skunk yesterday morning. Engine is still not right.
Met up up with driver and WB. They were moving better than me.
Still the goose egg.
I ended up the day by casting to non interested cruisers and rowing back down the lake to the takeout. Home by 1.
Homies stayed longer. Same result. Longer drive home on the skunk.  :P
 d:b
I parked the derelict craft in the garage and J and I took his bote out this morning.
We covered as much good looking water as possible at 12 mph or less.
We saw few cruisers. Caught a few brute bluegills. No bass. WTF?  b';
Annnd finally scored a couple of blind casting carp to save the day.

I have determined that all carp are born at about 5 lbs. We have little bluegills harassing the flies, but not little carp.
Brood IX might be in the books. Disappointing.
Moving on.  :Dance

We have been talking about Brood IX for 3 years now.  How epic it will be on Philpott.  Well just like the raging dumpster fire that 2020 has been, Brood IX fit into 2020 perfectly.  Bugs never were really on the water.  Lots of boat and fishing pressure.  Flood gates of rain raised the lake 10 feet after the bugs started hatching.

May 31st I got out on Philpott.  Solo in the underpowered jon.  Fighting the trolling motor with a good breeze all while trying to spot carp proved to be a fun endeavor.  Hooking into a carp, trying to back the boat away from logs, all while trying to get the carp on the reel and then use a musky net to net a raging carp was entertaining to the passing boats I'm sure.  Ended up boating 8 but most came from one 50 ft stretch of shore that they were stacked up on.  A walleye fisherman filled me in on the spot.  Hats off to him.

Had a wedding down in Hotlanta to attend June 6th weekend.  Wanted to squeeze in one last carp trip on Philpott and Doug joined me on June 14th.  Cicada noise was down drastically and literally saw 2 cicadas all day.  Think we spotted maybe 6 cruising carp and none of the cruisers were interested.  2 carp we caught came from blind casts. Doug caught his minutes from quitting time.

Here's to 2020 Brood IX

Onslow

Those are some damn nice redbreast!  Those little aggro bastards probably consumed 80 percent of the cicadas, lol.

Hope no carp slime was allowed on that fancy new deck on your boat!

Sedition and Pockets

Poked around on a local creek for an hour or so Tuesday.  Found the skinniest grass carp I've ever seen looking up.  Love the way these fish take a dry.

2020 Carp Pond reopened!

Legally the pond is no longer off limits, although evidence indicates that there has been a lot of people fishing it anyway.

They pulled the large pine that fell in but that is replaced by an even larger oak. The banks are way overgrown and trees are down along the path to the back side.

Carp were feeding and within catchable range, but they gave me the finger.

Hit the carp
Pond today— looks like there is a koi in there now - not too big and I had a number of
Shots at it but - it didn't like the fly I was casting — left the carp box at home and only had a chartreuse mop fly

I'll be back

Cruising carp conundrum!

I went to the pond for a couple of hours, the carp were cruising in clusters in pears, A few were feeling, but didn't take the offer to fly. Several may have looked at the fly but turned away. I am now believe there are two Koi in the pond.
