Our speaker this month will be Dr. David Penrose, an aquatic entomologist retired from the Water Quality Group at  North Carolina   State   University .  Much of his work in the last 10 years has been assessing the effectiveness of stream restoration projects using biological tools, specifically benthic insects. Dave's talk is titled "Aquatic insects and water quality" during which he will present an introduction to the natural history and pollution ecology of common stream insects in our area. So if you've ever wondered which insects to look for when you're wondering about the quality of a new stream come out next Tuesday  ( January 11, 2011 ) night at the N. Asheville Library—the meeting begins at7:00PM .

Getting to the  N. Asheville  Library:

From I26 take exit 23 onto  Merrimon Ave  southbound. Go 1.8 miles and the library will be on your right just after passing the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary.

From  Asheville  on  Merrimon Ave  northbound, the library will be on your left about 100 yds after passing Fresh Market.

The meeting room is on the left side of the library and can be reached either through the front door or the side door.

For anyone wanting to eat in the area before the meeting, there is a new Mexican restaurant on north Merrimon just before you enter  Asheville , a new Chinese restaurant and Marcos Pizza adjacent to Fresh Market (about 100 yds south of the library). There are many other places to eat within the 1 mile stretch of Merrimon between the library and Louellas BBQ at  Weaver Blvd.
