These photos will make me go fishing.  Kudos!

However, the rest of the trip report was excellent!

I believe the garter snake is "poisonous".

Very doubtful that the snake pictured is either. Looks like a Northern Water snake.

That's what I was thinking.

I had been talking to a new neighbor a few days ago.
She found out I fly fished and mentioned that her husband/vet/fedex pilot/golfer wanted to learn to fly fish.
I told her you should only have one really obsessive, frustrating hobby.
But hey, if he took some casting instruction from a certified instructor (not me!), I'd take him fishing.

Meanwhile, Bobby and I conspired to fish the yearly fountain of youth test for me.
But it had been 3 years. The last two years had conspired against me.
Schedule, weather, surgery, family, you know, the normal stuff.
After the good slug of rain, it should be flush.
So, for the first trip of June it was off to the top of the Widowmaker.

Up the trail we went.
Hey Mr. Copperhead!
The first poisonous snake I've run into in many years.
Good sign?

Fish were slow to come, many fly changes were made.
Bobby scored a few. But it was frustrating.
I was skunked.

The nettles and growth in general was rightous.
The rough was rough.

We carried on. Up we went.

Bobby scored a couple. But it was frustrating.
I was skunked.

Lots of good botanizing was done.
Gray's? Lily was a few weeks away from blooming.
Not sure I want to struggle back in there to witness.

We carried on. Up we went.
Fish were slow to come, many fly changes were made.
Bobby scored a couple more. But it was frustrating.
I was still skunked.

The bug activity was encouraging.
Big stoneflies were out and about.
Nymphs and adults.
And Green Drakes.
First time I'd seen them here.
Oh shit. How magnificent.

I finally caught a fish.

We climbed up and around the last series of torrents and we were at the exit point.
A whopping 10ish fish.
No bloodshed, broken bones, or serious scrapes.
Bobby did throw a felt sole off one boot climbing out.
We did not break any clubs or lose any balls.
Just a few flies.
Botanized the 3 mile hike out and solved zero problems of the world.
I'm glad I don't golf.

Woke up this morning felling pretty good.
Finished a long day at work feeling beat.
I'll do it again next year.
Like golf, we keep our own scores.
Except the score card is not just numbers.

:cheers
