Title: Simms warranty
Post by: driver on August 26, 2016, 15:54:31 PM
For what its worth I'd thought I'd relay this info.

I sent my G3's and a pair of backup Freestones in a few weeks ago. The Freestones had been worn maybe 5 times and leaked in the crotch seams. Took me 2 years to finally send them in.
The G3's had the taping around the booties come off and the knees leaked.
They call about a week later and said the the Freestones would be replaced with the new model under warranty, but said the G3's were unrepairable due to the reason the taping came off. They said the reason the taping came off was from moisture inside the waders. Which was noticeable because of the mildew inside the waders. Which came from one instance of leaving the waders wet in a bag for a month. So no go on the repair. The G3's were a little over 2 years old.  I was hoping to get more life out of these waders for the price.

But they did offer to sell me a new pair of 2016 G3's for 40% off. So I reluctantly said yes, because any other pair of good waders it going to cost that much.

So my problem is I don't know if I should be pissed or happy. I got brand new waders at a good price but way sooner than I was hoping. But either way they know how to keep you buying their product.

Could be worse. I've heard of the moisture issue killing the warranty.

Glad you got some satisfaction, and thank you for the info.

If you fish all the time- how in the hell are you going to let your wader dry out??

The first thing I do when I get home is turn them inside out. But I kill waders and boots like a serial killer anyhow.

I have a wader dryer. I bought it mainly for my neoprene hunting waders. But I usually throw the Simms on there after I get back from a trip. Except that one time. I will be meticulous with this next pair. And when the taping comes off again I better get another pair free.

Last season a friend relayed how he sent his G3s back, told unrepairable and offered the 40% off deal. Well my very, very old G3s were long since retired but not thrown away( hoarder gene I guess), so I see this as an opportunity for a deal. I sent them back and wait for the offer...... Nope.... They fixed the old ones for $60 bucks or so and yes they don't leak....

A long time ago I sent my old first gen guide pants back for new booties, they called me to confirm the repair and stated that, "a product has a life cycle and we think your waders are at the end of it, are you sure you want to pay for the new booties?"

I always hang mine on the cabin porch until dry.  That being said, I has a problem similar to yours and had to argue with Simms before they replaced.  I told them their moisture argument was illogical in that we were talking about waders for God's sake and they had gotten "moist" because they leaked! b';

After up grading to CS super, they finally agreed to replace.

I have had one other Simms related warranty call and had no problems.  I wonder if it depends on who happens to open the box when you send them?

Still think the products are great, but I was a little disappointed in their reaction to a claim. I bought these at DRO and when I mentioned this situation to Kevin, he rolled his eyes and said they were getting picky.  I guess some folks have been taking advantage of them.  Not sure that really matters though, either honor the damn warranty or don't give it.

Anyway, still think their waders are great and usually long lived.

My $.02.

BUMP. Another pair bites the dust complete sole separation on the back end of a pair of freestone boots. 2nd pair exact same problem in 5 years.

Searched a bunch on the Simms site but nothing on boots, is there any case to be made for a pair that failed just over 2 years in? Is 2 years of regular use the "life of the product"? The felt is still in good shape so kinda ticks me off that they just blew out that suddenly in the exact same spot as the last pair.

Going back to Korkers but wouldn't mind having a spare pair if they will fix em. If all 5 people on this board could weigh in I'd ppreciate it  -+;

I will take a picture of my freestone boots this evening.  Think I have 4 years in them.  Really should of got new ones after 2.5-3 years.

I think it will really depend on the rep you get.  Seems like Simms likes to call everything "normal wear and tear".

If I get 2 years, I consider it a win. Any boot.

Moisture on stowed waders and boots murders them quick. I had a new pair of camo Chota's with only about 20 fishing days. Summer came and I made the mistake of leaving them wet at a family members home, my family member then stuffed them in a cooler under the deck. They lived there hidden for a month or two before I realized they were missing. They blew out the very next outing up in the smokies, full ankle blow out, complete seam/glue fail. I am confident them being stored damp inside an old cooler killed them. I aint got no fancy garage so I try to make it a point to bring waders inside the Hvac to dry now opposed to the hot truck or truck camper.
For boots I went with simms freestone no felt as that's all they offered the year I bought them and I love them. They don't grip like felt but ive gotten used to that and I cant kill them hiking or fishing. (one broken bone might change my opinion on no felt but my boots last forever now.)

I have found that the next level up of Simms boots hold up very well. Last pair were G3 guide boots, I wore the rubber soles flat. Latest pair are the Headwaters? got on close out for the price of Freestones, Holding up well. I do have a pair of $100 Korkers felt soles that I have had since 2016, but I only wear those on tailwaters. So they don't get as much abuse.

Simms love. I hated them for the first year. Stiff. Hurt my ankles. Frankenstein boots.
2 1/2 years. Felt still hanging in there. All seams intact. 120ish days, god knows how many miles.
World record boots for me.

They'll probably disintegrate next trip. -0-

I bought a pair of Simms Freestone rubber soles a while back, and they are ass busting machines. Might as well tie some oiled bacon around your feet.

How long did you get out of those freestones Woolly? I wasn't too impressed with the life of mine before they needed to be replaced.  I was impressed with how much longer I made them work though.

I can't really remember but offhand I say at least three years.

In spite of my mostly positive comments about my Simms waders last year, I still think Chota STL felt boots are the most comfortable and longest lasting boots I have ever had.  Might take a look.

The freestones are garbage. I've had good luck with the Simms models above those. Had a pair of G3 guides I wore the rubber soles slick. Still have em.

Driver and I had this streamside conversation. Your miles may vary.
I'm notoriously rough on boots. Starting year 3 on my felt Freestones. Which is a world record for me. They probably wouldn't last the year, but I begrudgingly give them their due. And I won't pester Simms about the warranty like the chief skinflint here.  :Dance
