Title: DB boo
Post by: walt on October 25, 2005, 06:43:35 AM
The new Diamondback Bamboo Fly Rod series arrived here yesterday. I invited over a local 'boo afficionado to test cast them with me over on the courthouse lawn.

I rigged up the 7' 4wt with my Tibor Spring Creek, loaded with SA GPX  DT4, and Doug and I tested it.

I'm not an expert caster but I had no problem casting it. Doug, cast after cast, tossed some beautiful tight loops, all the while giving the rod praise (he's a big fan of Payne tapers)..... he gave it a hearty thumbs up.

Anyway's guys and gals, consider this an invite to come on by and test drive.... no purchase necessary  :)

TCh....

Here's the DB link which seems to be out-of-order this am:

http://www.diamondbackflyrods.com/pages/fly-rods/cane-series.php

w/o the spectre of spamming, here's what is at my site:

The new Diamondback Bamboo series is without question one of the most handsome series of cane rods produced by anyone, at an excellent price. These rods have features that one would expect to find on classic bamboo including strong, full flexing bamboo tapers with sensitive tips. Finished in nickel-silver serrated ferrules, fine nickel silver cap and ring reel seat hardware over a tiger maple barrel, light tan silk wraps with bronze silk accents and wonderful varnish work throughout. The grips are a modified classic Payne design with rod tapers matching that same master builder's crisp, dry fly creations.

Available in 7' 4wt 2pc and 7.5' 5wt 2pc models, each with two tips that cover the majority of small to medium trout stream applications. Both models come in an aluminum tube with brass fittings.

Retail: $650

that said..... tonkin cane blanks built in china.

the blanks are imported and using REC components, finished in vt.

the 7' 4wt is a payne taper.... 97 or 98 (can't read my scribblin) .... a crisp action boo according to bill at db.

the 7.5 5wt is more mysterious..... bill didn't know (or wouldn't say) what the taper design is,,,, what he did say is that it is a more traditional boo in that it is a slow whippy action.... whatever the hell that means..... like me, prolly could use a vitamin v fix.  :-\
