I had noticed the bass starting to go up into the shallow areas of the pond and prowl around last week. Decide to take a fly out and see if they were ready to eat something on top. Took a foam caddis/spider looking combo. This pattern will never see a book, but it looks buggy and has a lot of subtle motion to it. Fished to the ones I could see cruising around the pond. Cast into a notch in the grass and mad a few strips. Shadow and then a gulp. Fine little pound class largemouth. Fished on for a hour and missed another fish. Probably bigger than the first. Had several follows. Waters getting warmer and I can see the bluegill getting active soon. Gonna tie some foam spider before the next trip over. Brown, blacks, and greens seem to be the best in that order.

If your a trout snob you might want to try the warm water species to. Fly fishing it's self seems to build it's own skills. Bluegill and bass are fun

Times fun when you're having flies.
