Socialism is not intrinsically flawed, evil, or deficient.  The fuckers who won't pull their weight are the ones that are deficient, flawed, and evil.

My vote fell in the R column, but I luv Bernie.  We just cannot have nice things in America.  Gotta work with what one has, not one hopes for.

QuoteHe also blamed ISIS on climate change  b';

Not just him, but the National Academy of Sciences.

QuoteSignificance

There is evidence that the 2007−2010 drought contributed to the conflict in Syria. It was the worst drought in the instrumental record, causing widespread crop failure and a mass migration of farming families to urban centers. Century-long observed trends in precipitation, temperature, and sea-level pressure, supported by climate model results, strongly suggest that anthropogenic forcing has increased the probability of severe and persistent droughts in this region, and made the occurrence of a 3-year drought as severe as that of 2007−2010 2 to 3 times more likely than by natural variability alone. We conclude that human influences on the climate system are implicated in the current Syrian conflict.

No shit.  Read the text again.  It impicates climate for the fertile ground, not the seed.

The rebellion against Assad was triggered by the drought.  I seriously do not believe ISIS would have had a prayer of attaining any kind of toehold if Assad regime in 10 years ago when the country was stable.  Arab Spring is a gift that keeps on giving.

Your statement implies that people are rational and will evaluate each candidate on what the NET benefit or loss his/her platform will impose on their personal lives.  When the middle class begins to understand they will likely be net losers under Sanders' platform and not just 1 percenters, they will abandon him like rats on a sinking ship.  People vote with their pocket books...this I am sure of.

I think some vote with their wallet, but it is damned hard for me to believe that those supporting a candidate, like Trump, and even some of the others, are directed by the almighty dollar.  Could it be synergistic, fear and ignorance?

My opposition to Sanders is that the cost of his proposals total 18-20 trillion dollars over ten years, yet he has only outlined 6-7 trillion in taxes to pay for that spending.  He says he's going to do it totally on the backs of wealthy people, but I don't see how that's possible.

(Please don't refer me to Kevin Drum's article and tell me "it's a wash".  The money for these programs still has to come from somebody.)

Unfortunately with a socio-economic collapse, the middle class would suffer the worst. Sure there would be an initial downward spiral of the lower class (think govt dependent types), but soon after the lower class would revolt and storm into their next door neighbors towns and neighborhoods (which happen to be the middle class typically). The rich would stay gated away until the lower and middle classes could agree to work together and fix their problems, which ironically were underemployment and government dependency. Now this is all obviously assuming an entire collapse, but the circumstances are and have been lining up for quite some time now to see this as a reality in the next decade or two. Just my unsolicited shitty $.02

A no vote in a Trump Hillary contest.  My wife does not fear a Trump presidency.  She does express concern about the state of mind of the general population, likening them to the Germans before the rise of Hitler.

She finds Cruz so offensive, she may be moved to vote against him.

I am no fan of Cruz either.  I think he's really smart, but he's too partisan and ideologically driven.  He's just like Obama in that respect.  Republicans might relish the opportunity to "stick it" right back to the Democrats, but that's no way to run a government.  His shut down the government stunt was indefensible.

Malcolm, did you see this article about Cruz that came out a few weeks ago?

https://www.yahoo.com/politics/ted-cruz-has-been-plotting-1305876417003574.html

My FIL graduated summa cum laude from Princeton. He said Cruz was really intelligent and would be a very interesting person if he wasn't such a jerk.

Obviously I would hate to see the guy in the Oval Office but I doubt he'll make it. If he won the R nomination I think it would rally the base behind Hillary and all she'd have to do to win is not be Ted Cruz.

I didn't read it, but there's no question he's brilliant.  Alan Dershowitz said he was "of-the-charts brilliant" at Harvard.  Dylar's probably right about him having the best ground game, which your article seems to confirm.

The problem I have with him is he panders to the extreme elements of the Republican party who are sick and tired of what the left and a complicit media have been doing to them.  They want to fight back and do the same to the Democrats--they want revenge.   I never understood the shut the government down strategy--it may have endeared him to the far right, but he had to know he'd be skewered by the left and the media for it.  Republicans have to pick their battles, and that was a bad strategy.

The moderates of both parties have been hollowed out, and that's bad.  Obama, Pelosi, and Reid ushered in this total war aspect to governing beginning with Obama's "I won" comment during the stimulus discussions and followed by ramming Obamacare through without a single Republican vote.

Not that I'm a huge Hillary fan but I'd say she is as middle-of-the-road, milk toast as they come. She's hawkish on foreign policy and slightly left of center on domestic social issues. I think you're right about Cruz and the extreme right of your party but I'd venture if Hillary were a man in the 1960's she could've run as a republican.

I agree.  I don't think there's any question she's more middle-of-the-road than Cruz.  She learned to be pragmatic from Bill, and I would expect her to tack back to the middle once Sanders blows up.  I think it would almost be fun to watch the Clintons back in the White House.  Hillary could be the first woman and lesbian to be elected President (we get to check two boxes!) and Bill would be flying around the country with his child-molesting buddy Ron Burkle on "Air Fuck One".

Woman and lesbian?  Well that is a dumb-assed comment.  I don't see the need to state that she is a woman, if you say she is a lesbian.  Or have I missed something; all lesbians are women, correct?
