Title: The Tuck, Sat Nov 11
Post by: phg on November 14, 2006, 18:53:28 PM
Fishing on the Tuck on Sat. was great!  There was a full guide/driftboat hatch going on, and no way you could get away from other fishermen.  Still, there was plenty of room, the weather was awesome, the water in good condition, and the trout in a cooperative mood.  I put on a size 14 orange stimulator, planning to add a nymph dropper, but after a few casts, I gave up that idea, as the trout were coming up to the dryfly just fine.  All fish were caught on top.  In fact, all fish were caught on the same fly. ;D

Unfortunately, I was wade-fishing, and I'm not very familiar with the river, so when the surge hit, I got out.  Still, I got to explore some new water, learn an thing or two about this river, and caught some nice fish to boot.

As Wooly always says, get a picture of the first fish:

Brookies dominated on Sat.  I caught several that were just about the same size as this one:

There are some spots in the 'shoals' above the island where you can wade a little when they are generating but then the problem is getting the fly down to the fish. Conehead woolly buggers work for me, but I can't get out too far with the water up. Who was it that went 'swimming' on the tuck at PFF?

I don't recall anyone going swimming this time.  Streamer admitted going down on one knee, but I don't call that a fall.  I managed to keep my feet as well, but there were a couple of close calls....  It's all just part of fishing, and the reason I keep a change of dry clothes in the car.
