Thanks, Woolly! I ordered one for next season. Smokin price -- $79 on Amazon. And I got free shipping.  /'/

That mastery line sucks compared to the amplitude smooth line. Ask me how I know.

I've been using that line for a long time with no problem at all — what's your beef streamereater?

I fished both lines side by side on similar rods one day. The more $$ line floated better in moving water, was less likely to get pulled under, has color indication for the head/running line(judging distance), and has a very small texture that shoots through the guides better along with feel...just my opinion.
I've found that I can fish a more expensive line/cheeper rod combo better than a cheaper line/expensive rod combo if that makes sense.

I dunno if I'm a good enough caster for a "quality" line @ $35 and a "Better quality" line @ $100 to make much difference.

$39 is the discounted/discontinued price. $69 was the normal price. If you don't need a 7wt line to cast a 5wt rod, you will be able to notice the difference between the two.

Great buy at $39 bucks. The front taper is a half a line weight heavier than standard. It helps turn larger flies over even when you don't the have the full front taper out ( 30'). The extra weight helps load the rod better at close range.   The slight texturing helps with mends and curve cast. Not the best line you can buy, but a good buy at $39. Keep all your lines clean and keep the kinks out of them.

Listened to Shawn Combs (Head of Orvis Product Development), on the Orvis Fly Fishing Podcase, and now I'm convinced that I need a Helios 3 rod  :Dance  _

Well, I reckon the discontinued (but new to me) Mastery line will be better than my old SA "Frequency Trout" line on one reel and/or the older lowest end Orvis discontinued line on my other.

Helios 3?? :o  Guess my high end Orvis "Zero Gravity" rod is hopeless, eh?

Cast a Scott centric or radian and you'll never buy any "whorvis" junk again. BTW orvis lines and SA lines are made in the same plant out of the same material, just slightly different tapers.

Phil

Scott Centric? Helios 3?  :o  :o

I've never paid more than $250 for a rod in my life.
