Troutphisher called last night, wanted hit the tailwaters. I didn't like the generation schedule, as I'd have to get up real early to make a day of it. I told him I'd be there if I got up in the morning. Well the alarm went off at 5 and I was out the door at 20 after. Four hours of sleep, yawn.

Hit the river @ 8:02, wasn't the first one there, but close, things iced up pretty quickly

for the next several hours the trout were rising to bows and sulphurs and we has a blast catching them on the surface, it wasn't exactly Donkey Kong, but a good number of fish came to hand

A little late in the reply, fished the last two weeks, and just got back to the land of the dead.....

The Soho, was as always very fun to fish, but this trip was extra special.
We started the day nymphing and picked up a few in the runs and seams, then we moved up river around the generation and headed to spot that provides some fun dry fishing, this time of year you can almost count on the bwo hatch, but I would not have counted on a sulphur hatch, and the fish attacking the flies.

I saw several fish come completely out of the water, some even did somersault's missing the fly on the attempt, but chasing it down on a second swipe.

I changed flies between the sulphurs size 18 and bwo size 18 and had a blast most of the afternoon.
The hard part was targeting a specific rise and staying with it until the fish took the fly. the fish wanted a long drag free drift, or in  some cases, a little jitter and skipping of the fly, and they would strike it with reckless abondon....


I never grow tied of fishing this river, where else can you fish drys to rising trout the last days of December, with friends and good beer for the break.......
