Helluva striper day

7  total ..  Best fish was about 20 lbs that got out of the Boga Grip and we let it go. We do not keep the bigguns because there is way too much food on an individual fish. We have kept a total of 3 fish this year -- all in the 8 to 11 lb class

Wow what river where you on?

The Dude

I've eaten fresh ocean caught stripers (or rockfish as we called 'em in Va Beach) and they are one of my favorite fish as tablefare (right up there with red drum and fresh tuna).  How does the taste and texture compare with landlocked stripers?
I was born by the river in a little tent, And just like the river I've been running ever since, It's been a long, long time coming, But I know change is gonna come.

Dougfish

Hmmm. Them fly reels look upside down? ;)

Jfey

Yup, going fishing

We are fishing in Boone Lake Near Bluff City

Dude
I think that Sea Run Stripers are a little better tasting. The meat texture is similar ,but slightly better in the sea run fish.
The real key just like in Blue Fish is to get the skin off the fillet and then remove the blood line that runs down the sides.
Hell, I think that I will have striper for supper :D   Yummmm !

Good day on the water JT.
I agree, those bigguns are just too much.
We like to soak the fillets in buttermilk, in the fridge overnight, and then fry them the next day.
Also, they make good fish tacos, if you're into that sort of thing.

Boone Lake....caught some BIG carp there back in the day.  Good times.

Pastor explains icons to my son: you know like the fish symbol on the back of cars.
My son: My dad has two fish on his car and they're both trout!

Stone-Man

Damn nice fish Beetle.
I have caught a few cats on a fly and they are pretty hard to bring in once they get up over 3-4 lbs.

What river are you on.    PM me if it is a secret
